Help us repair Rick and return him to the wild

Donation protected

Greetings and Salutations  to all  Rick's friends, family, fans and random admirers, this is Rick's '
 'Warrior Princess' wife Rowena.
Actually,  Warrior Princess. was Rick's nickname for me while he was in Jackson South hospital and Ponce Plaza because I was a verrrry determined advocate!
Anyway......I 've finally finished rewriting and updating the initial GoFundMe Page "Help us release Rick back into the wild!” now retitled
'Help us repair Rick and return him to the wild!   Actually, the first GoFundMe page was posted a couple of days after June 2nd,  which was the date our
favorite Turtle Guru, Reptile Enthusiast, Grateful Dead Scholar, Cormac McCarthy Guiding Light, Old Gator Baseball Fan /Blogger was promptly transported from our house, by ambulance, to Jackson South Medical Center in response to the 911 call I made when Rick started to have difficulty breathing.      Fortunately, the hospital is only 15 mins away from our home, because
not only did Rick have bacterial pneumonia, he also had a blood clot that entered his heart, created a heart blockage and then  a full heart attack to which both kidneys reacted by shutting down,  happening only minutes after he was brought into the E.R. at Jackson South!
Rick also had a bleeding ulcer on his colon .The ulcer was only discovered about two weeks into Rick's time on the I.C.U.  and only after the it began hemorrhaging, despite two procedures that failed ,
finally requiring emergency surgery (colectomy)  to save his life. When Rick was moved from the E.R.to the I.C.U., he was still connected to a ventilator and  other equally important tubes and wires, however, the phenomenal doctors, nurses and everyone else in the E.R. and ICU provided him with the best possible care, proving to those of us who suspected Rick to be as tough as a Tardigrade, that our suspicions were correct!   As a matter of fact, after one month of continuous and then regular dialysis, both his kidneys started working again and he is also the proud owner of a permanent pacemaker, fully replaceable after ten years with a 10-cent deposit refund!
Before we forget, we'd like to say, "THANK YOU VERY MUCH!” to all the Jackson South Medical Center doctors and nurses as well as the fabulous security ladies at the front desk who always remembered our first names and were really professional as they repeatedly and patiently explained the hospital Covid19 rules to anxious family members
By Friday, July 6th, the doctors and other members of Rick’s medical and physical therapy team had decided that Rick’s condition was stable enough for him to be discharged from Jackson South Medical Center and progress to a skilled nursing and physical therapy rehabilitation facility, to continue recuperating, regain his appetite, increase his muscle strength and look forward to returning home from the skilled nursing and rehab. facility in better condition than when he arrived!
But, because we were only offered the names of three facilities from a list of the twenty insured by Preferred Care Partnership and because there was NOT enough time to decently research any of them, we chose Ponce Plaza, a ‘skilled nursing and rehab facility’ located conveniently close to where our daughter Chelsea and her husband lived.   Moreover, Ponce Plaza's website also displayed a photo of a smiling young man in a chef’s attire, preparing a really inspiring healthy-looking meal, that I optimistically assumed to be a visual example of Ponce Plaza’s dietary offerings while the rest of the website also offered a very promising recuperation experience, so we  felt cautiously  relieved about our choice of skilled nursing and rehab facility.
Regrettably, over the next four weeks, we discovered that Ponce Plaza’s Nursing Admin.and doctor's  recovery plan and  follow up for Rick's  physical therapy, nursing, diet / hydration and basic patient care was woefully inadequate  and even descended into neglect, when, in the third week , the Ponce Plaza doctors and nurses failed to notice that the reason Rick had begun to sleep almost all the time ,
was because he was developing severe dehydration and his kidneys  were  about to  fail a second time!
Finally, when my continuous complaints and questions about Rick’s increased lethargy were taken seriously by the Ponce Plaza dietician, she decided to check up on Rick while I was still in the building . and  found Rick asleep, his face was pallid and his skin losing its elasticity, both signs of dangerously acute dehydration  and the Ponce Plaza dietician immediately informed the nursing admin.  who, at last, sent Rick to Jackson South Medical Center the same day!
Consequently, on August 6th, one month after arriving at Ponce Plaza in a stable condition,  rather than  feeling well enough and strong enough   to be able to return home, Rick was 'discharged' from Ponce Plaza,  to return, not to his home,  but to   Jackson South Medical Center with severe dehydration, failing kidneys and too much potassium in his blood!
Back at South Jackson Medical Center, it took the E.R and I.C.U. doctors and nurses at least two weeks to restore Rick’s kidneys, blood, and body to pre–Ponce Plaza health . This time Jackson South discharged Rick ‘to be nursed at home with the assistance of United  Home Health Services. '
On August 19th, Rick returned home and slept for most of the first two weeks, although, whenever he was awake, we made sure that he drank plenty of liquids, including ice water, low sodium beef broth, chicken broth, bone broth, goat milk, chocolate and strawberry flavored Atkins drinks, etc.
However,it IS  taking longer than we expected for Rick to expand his  range of solid foods , due to an alteration  in  his sense of taste which could be a reaction to medications, anemia and/or the length of time Rick was dependent on a ventilator and feeding tube , however, we are still looking for answers
I am ,however,  thrilled and even strangely relieved, to report that Rick’s unique sense of humor has fully recovered and is as warped and snarky as it was before June 2nd
In fact, Rick would love to hear from you, so please send him a get-well card or email and/or call him for a chat! If you don't have his cell number, include your phone number or email address in a comment on the GoFundMe Page and we'll contact you.
VISITORS WITH PROOF OF VACCINATION AND A RECENT NEGATIVE COVID19 TEST ARE ALWAYS WELCOME! …  SORRY, NO EXCEPTIONS. I’VE WORKED TOO HARD AT KEEPING RICK ALIVE TO LOSE HIM TO A COVID19  OR DELTA VIRUS NOW!
Many, many thanks and hugs from
