Help us find a #kidney4martin‼️‼️
In 2009 Martin was diagnosed with kidney failure and immediately started hemodialysis 4-5 hours, 3 times a week. Hemodialysis took such a toll on his body that we almost lost him on a few occasions. A year and a half later, on 10/19/2010, he was blessed with a second chance at life from his mother. He was lucky to live a healthy 11 and a half years. Unfortunately, in April of last year he was given the devastating news that his kidney was no longer functioning and again needed dialysis to keep him alive. He is now faced with being connected to a machine at least 12 hours a day, seven days a week for the rest of his life or a new transplant. Dialysis can keep him alive but at the same time, is very hard on the body and organs. Receiving a kidney from a live donor increases his chances of a better life than, if he waited for a kidney from a deceased donor. He is currently listed at the AdventHealth Transplant Institute in Orlando. The current waiting list for his blood type, for a deceased kidney, is roughly 4-8 years, unless he is blessed with a living donor.
Immediate family has been tested but unfortunately have come back incompatible. Asking another person to consider donating a kidney is so difficult, but it greatly improves his chances of getting a transplant before his health deteriorates further. If you would like to learn more about becoming that special angel for him, we would be happy to talk to you anytime at [phone redacted] or email at [email redacted].
If you find it in your heart to help by sharing or maybe even consider donating life, it would be immensely welcomed and appreciated. It only takes a 15 minutes survey. To register for this survey and become a possible living donor please go to https://ahlivingdonor.com and when asked please enter his name Martin Chairez-Ramirez and his date of birth: 05/12/1977.
We understand that this is a very personal decision that is not right for everyone. Please do not feel pressured, but maybe you can think of other ways to spread his story and help him find that special donor. At least, we can increase public awareness about kidney disease and living donation so that others in his situation can also find that angel.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more about becoming a living donor, please go to https://www.AdventHealth.com/hospital/AdventHealth-Orlando/blog/what-living-donor-program.com or you may also call the living donor coordinators at:
