The Friends of DC Fencers Club usually hosts events to help aspiring competitive fencers at our club. Today, we launch a fundraiser to help Ukrainians who came to Poland to escape the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
All donations will go to a Polish charity called Niemarudni. This small organization focuses on assisting specific families and individuals who recently arrived. They assess their immediate needs and help them begin to navigate life in Poland, either for the long-term, or until they are able to return to their home country if they so choose.
Funds may help with material support (apartment rental security deposit, groceries, phone or internet fees), as well as logistical support (help with finding an apartment, school enrollment, language classes for adults, and help with finding employment).
Just two weeks ago, Anna arrived from Ukraine with her one-year-old daughter and mother. Niemarudni found them a place to stay and helped them start a catering business. The organization has helped many Ukrainian refugees in a similar manner.
Our club has strong ties to Poland and a personal connection with this well-established and reputable organization. Since February 24, Poland has welcomed more than two million Ukrainian refugees. If we can help lighten the burden of even a few individuals suffering this horror, we will.
Thank you for your support.
