Hi - I am Aisha from the UK -I would like to raise £9,000 for the family of Walaa Nazeer Al-Sersawi, (Mum-25yo) Mohammed Foud Ahmed Isleem (Dad-30yo ) and sons
Belal (5 years), Amir (1.5 years)
This fundraiser is to specifically assist Walaa, Belal and Amir, to join Mohammed across the border in Egypt as well.as to help cover increasing costs of goods they have to purchase in order to eat and survive.
Following bombing of their home in Gaza City and then a further bombing when in Khan Younis the family are now displaced, living in a tent located in Rafah, Tal al-Sultan, near the egyptian borders.
I've known of Walaa since early March 2024 after she reached out to me for help. Expressing a desire to feed her children with items where now prohibitively expensive she requested donations. At the time as it was Ramadan, I was able to add her to an initiative being run locally that sent Zakaat payments to those in need. After receiving this payments Walaa kindly helped to distribute addititional payments to others suffering around her especially during the last 10 days of Ramadan.
Walaa also managed to send funds to individuals in North Gaza and to those at Al-Shifaa hospital during these last 10 days of Ramadan. The picture where Amir &Belal are holding the sealed bag of milk is poignant as the children had not had any milk for several months, so were very excited to hold this after the kind donations were made.
Walaa recently sent me this statement:
“We are now living in a 4x3 tent which contains 16 persons. We were in our home in Gaza city but then displaced to Khan Younis after bombing our home and dreams with it .and then we are in Rafah after bombing Khan Younis
I wish I could hold my two kids and fly away from this fear and unfair life. I wish they could have a good life in a safe place”
The children have had an especially difficult time.
“My child Belal was so happy to join a kindergarten, but, unfortunately, his happiness didn't last more than a month. Everything changed and life became colourless
No kindergarten anymore, not even any mental activity, in addition to eating canned food in the time his body needs vitamins and protein from eggs, milk, meat and fruits. All these factors affected him and his development. His health has declined. He needs to wear diapers at night because of fear from bombing and its scary sounds.
“The most thing I hated through this war is suffering from Intestinal catarrh, which has affected all kids and adults here due to pollution everywhere, and especially the dirty water. I miss the days when we were drinking clean water and eating healthy. He has an intestinal catarrh, fever and diarrhoea.
I wish for my family to go to Egypt so that I can complete the last semester for me at university and work as a freelancer, as before. My husband owned a website and I have seen every step of it's success but since the war he no longer works on it and left his laptop. If he gets to Egypt, he will relaunch the website and work hard on it till we can get enough to live there.
We have nothing now after selling my neckless for my husband’s travel, but I am a bit comforted because he will be safe.
As most of the danger is on men rather than women, especially when the Zionists arrested many of our relatives and killed some. I couldn't imagine my husband being killed in front of me I love him and my kids are so in love with their Dad.
It will be so hard for me to have all the responsibility and I need to be with my husband."
Walaa’s comment on how they can leave Rafah:
"The process... we find someone (my husband's friend in Egypt who already registered my husband) to be an agent for us to get us registered in Ya Hala company in Egypt and then we wait until our names appear in the names' files. It takes around 25-35 days. then we can access the Egyptian borders easily. We will send the cost of 10,000 dollars (5000$ for me and 2500$ per kid) to our friend in Egypt, and he will pay it to Ya Hala company in Egypt. If anyone wants to travel in 3 days he will be charged 15.000$ per man, 7500$ per woman imagine but my husband chooses to pay 5000$ and wait about 25 to 35 days.!"
we bought everything we have and got some help from our relatives and friends in order to get my husband registered and now we have nothing to spend on our needs and kids' needs."
Walaa and Mohammed would like to give back to the Palestinians if they find themselves in a position to do so.
Walaa has advised she would return to Gaza if given an opportunity, she would assist those around her with accommodation and also she would teach English for those that want to learn, She and her husband would like to return and re-build Gaza as it is their true home. If you are able to please help them now and they will help in turn in the future.
If you like to you are able to view Walaa's instagram account also where she posts current updates as well as how her life looked before October 7th -Walaa's Instagram handle is walaa.999
Update17th May 2024
Following incursion into Rafa by the Israel forces. Walaa and family are again displaced to a camp n Dair Albalah. Fewer amenites and much less aid coming through the displaced Gazans situation has considerably worsened since the incursion on the 7th of May 2024,
Photo depicts the family's current conditions in Dair Albalah Camp.
Please help Walaa and her children get out of the nightmare they are living. Any small amount will help this family, please do what you can even if it is just £1.00 it all adds up and helps a family who has been destroyed by conflict. Please send this fundraiser on to at least 5 people and encourage to donate.
Disclaimer: If I don't manage to make the full amount for the three of them to evacuate the money will be used by the family to fund costs for a new tent, for travel out of Rafah if it is attacked, also it will be used to fund their living and day to day expenses until they are able to rebuild a normal life again.
