Help The Church Feed the Starving in Kenya -COVID

As many of you know, my daughter Elena and I traveled on a youth mentorship mission trip to Nairobi Kenya in November 2017 and stayed with 9 other US Team members from the Orthodox Christian Mission Center ( as the guests of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios while we served as youth mentors to the students and alumni of the St Clement's School. Wondering how my Kenyan friends were fairing at this difficult time, I phoned His Eminence in early May. He said the people of Kenya are not dying from Coronavirus, but are dying of starvation. He had just started a food distribution program to alleviate this suffering and show that the Church cares. Wanting to help, I decided to send a small financial gift to him through Western Union to use at his discretion where the need was greatest.    The very next day I saw photos posted on Facebook of the local food distribution made possible by my small gift.

With only a handful of gifts sent from friends in the United States and Australia, His Eminence has continued this outreach mission several times a week for more than the past month mostly focusing on the Riruta neighborhood surrounding the Orthodox Seminary and the St. Clements School where my OCMC team ministered in 2017. The Church's efforts have also been recognized on the National Evening News in Kenya.  I have learned that $100 will feed about 200 families in the neighborhoods so a little bit of money goes a very long way.

I would like to do more to help expand his efforts, so to celebrate my upcoming June 24th birthday I have launched this GoFundMe campaign. I will send all funds donated directly to His Eminence via Western Union to use at his discretion where he feels the need is greatest. In addition I will match the first $1000 of donations dollar for dollar.

Here is a link to a video that was featured recently on the National Evening News in Kenya showing His Eminence's efforts:

Whether or not you can support this campaign, I would ask that you pray for all of the children around the world, in Kenya, and in our own country - who as a result of this terrible pandemic do not have enough to eat. May the Good Lord take this food and multiply it in this city and in every city!
