Train Family – All aboard! Let’s help the Schipper Family
Pete was not only a friend of mine but a friend of many in the Harpers Ferry and Charles Town community who have already shown their strong support for Pete and his family through their response to this fundraiser. These funds will be used to pay medical bills, funeral costs, and provide financial support while Mihyun seeks full-time employment as well as starting Ashley's college fund.
Train travel brings a sense of community, particularly for those spending 5 days a week on a 2-hour commute, together. Sometimes, we’re lucky enough to find lifelong friends. Pete Schipper is one such friend of ours.
Pete Schipper was an intrepid kind, funny, and giving person. This picture is a favorite of mine as he had recently captured a boa constrictor that was on the loose, terrorizing passengers on the train – in the same suit and tie the week before. For those of us who are lucky enough to call Pete Schipper a friend, we have the opportunity to give back. Covid has hit many hard, we’ve lost friends and family, and we’re not able to travel or get together, but we can still help.
The Schippers have had a particularly harrowing time of it. Pete was recently diagnosed with aggressive Stage 4 colon cancer that despite starting treatment and surgery, he was not ultimately able to vanquish. While we lost Pete to an ugly foe, we can lessen the blow to the family he leaves behind.
The Schippers could use our help in offsetting the financial hardship from the medical bills, funeral costs, and assistance as those Pete left behind seek help in charting their future. Pete's daughter Ashley is a freshman at Washington High School and could use some hope and a whole lot of help in the New Year.
Whether or not you are able to give money to help Mihyun and Ashley, please continue to pray for them.
