We are reaching out to ask for your help and support for our friends Haley and JJ, whose baby girl, Rylee, is hospitalized with a severe and unknown illness. Haley and JJ are living every parent's worst nightmare—watching their child suffer while grappling with fear and uncertainty.
Last Friday, Rylee was rushed to the hospital with labored breathing. After initial treatment, she was sent home, where she soon became unresponsive, prompting JJ to perform CPR and Haley to call for emergency help. Rylee was airlifted to Le Bonheur's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), where she began a battle against rhinovirus, pneumonia, and a suspected muscle and neurological disorder.
On Monday, X-rays and exams led to a diagnosis of hypotonia (low muscle tone), and now Rylee is undergoing tests for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). The financial burden of genetic counseling and testing has added to their already overwhelming situation, as Haley and JJ are determined to provide Rylee with the best care possible.
Rylee is a bright, joyful baby who has brought light and love to everyone who knows her. Now, she is fighting for her life, and her parents are doing everything they can to ensure she gets the care she needs. The journey ahead is long and expensive, with limited insurance coverage and mounting medical bills for hospital stays, specialist consultations, tests, treatments, travel, and dog boarding.
Rylee was previously diagnosed with plagiocephaly. Her helmet and physical therapy will continue to be paid out of pocket to improve her skull shape.
