Legacy of Legends – Giving Elderly Horses and Donkeys the Dignity They Deserve

At Legacy of Legends, we believe that every horse and donkey deserves a final chapter filled with love, dignity, and respect.

We are a registered charity dedicated to:

• Retired Legends – Taking on elite sport horses after their careers end, keeping them in the public eye to show the importance of caring for older equines once the spotlight has faded.

• Rescue & Sanctuary – Offering a safe home to abandoned, neglected, and elderly horses who have reached the end of their natural lives. Here, they receive kindness, comfort, and a dignified farewell.

• Our Menagerie – Alongside the horses, we also care for donkeys and other farm animals in need. Among them are four endangered Poitou donkeys rescued from the meat trade—rare, gentle giants who now help us preserve a living piece of history.

Some of Our Stories

Cantho Z – Once a star of the sport, Cantho Z gave his all during his competitive years. But when retirement came, he needed somewhere safe to rest. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to bring him to France, where he now enjoys peaceful days of grazing and companionship.

Cinderella (Cinders) – Found on the Belgian border at risk of the meat trade, despite her remarkable career and many offspring. Because of donations, we drove through the night to rescue her. Cinders lived her final chapter with us, surrounded by love, and passed away peacefully at home with dignity—knowing she was cherished to the very end.

The Poitou Donkeys – Once headed for slaughter, these four rare donkeys now graze freely in our pastures. Their rescue not only saved their lives but also helps protect one of the world’s most endangered donkey breeds.
