Help a Pregnant Mom & Family Get Back On Their Feet!
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Patricia! I'm a fiancée, full-time mother of 2 children, a part-time mother of 4 (my bonus babies), and currently expecting the 5th addition to our crew, due June 20th, 2025. We live in Southern Minnesota and are looking for help getting back on our feet after an untimely and unfortunate eviction process. Please continue reading for further context.
In October of 2024 I found out I was pregnant with my 3rd child. Naturally, I was over the moon about our newest addition, and looking forward to the pregnancy journey. As a Doula, I believe babies are a blessing-- no matter how prepared a parent may or may not be to receive them-- and this was no different. Unfortunately after my first ultrasound, I was told that the doctors saw potential fluid surrounding my baby's heart, known as Fetal Pericardial Effusions; as well a potential cyst on the back of my baby's head. I was told they needed to monitor the baby closely and that although it might be too early to tell, I should be aware that it may not be possible to carry to term. Obviously this information put me under great duress. Especially since I was working full-time holding 3 different jobs.
After much consideration, I thought it be best to cut down on hours to alleviate stress on the baby; so I did that. Unfortunately our cost of living could not afford that move. Especially since I had just started the highest paying job at the beginning of October. I asked the leasing office if I could pay in installments and was told they don't usually do that and would prefer if I pay it all at once. That was not realistic for me as I still had utilities and other bills to pay.
In late November, we realized it was too challenging to close the financial gap that we were behind. I reached out to some local resources within my county that had helped in the past, but after waiting and waiting, they ultimately proved fruitless this time around. I was optimistic things would work out, but unsure how that would pan out. Therefore I held off on updating my leasing office on my progress. A misstep I regret deeply. I was served with a notice to evict shortly after.
In December, while waiting for the last resource to respond, I spent a lot of time Doordashing-- often with my family in the car with me to make extra money. The holidays came and went with its own added stress. December 30th was our court date for eviction court.
On December 30th we were ordered to pay $1000 in the first week which we paid, and to come up with the rest the following week (~5000). Though I applied for emergency assistance, they were backed up and told me they would get to me when they could. Despite my best efforts, we were eventually denied by emergency assistance because them paying for my rent was not sustainable. I later found out that was because we were incorrectly represented by our court appointed representative that reached out to emergency assistance on our behalf (I'm willing to go more in-depth if anyone wants the details). Because we couldn't meet our terms, the judge ruled in favor of the Apartment. We received our writ of recovery on January 23rd and were out of the apartment by the next day.
Since January, we've been living in a hotel, but that has not been easy to sustain. Because my main source of income pays 2 times a month vs every 2 weeks, I haven't been able to pay for the entire month at a time, and we've been paying roughly $400 weekly for our room. While we would usually Doordash or Instacart to cover the missing costs, we unfortunately had our vehicle break down on us in the middle of the road. Because we couldn't afford to get it towed in enough time, the city towed it and now it's stuck at a towing company adding $35/day to what we owe to get it out. I wish I could say that's all of our issues, but that would be a lie. The good news is we received news that the baby has overcome his issues and is in great health!
Many people ask me about my fiancé, his financial situation, and why he's not helping, and to that I say he is helping. We moved to the suburbs from Minneapolis because the quality of our last apartment was going downhill and was becoming very unsafe for our children. It was a rushed decision, but we had hope it would work out. Unfortunately, my fiancé is a felon and almost done with his probation. Where there would still be many options for work surrounding the cities, he has not had luck in the suburbs. He's been to countless interviews and has not been called back. The jobs that have been calling him back are either too far out to get to in a timely manner (since we no longer have a car), or are in other states. In the meantime he helps by taking care of the children while I'm working, and myself when I'm back home. He is trying his best to stay on the straight and narrow; and I'm doing my best to encourage him, because we've seen what a life of crime gets us-- stolen time.
Because I'm due so soon, I know I have to slow down for work within the next few weeks. I fear that we will have to give birth without having a stable home to bring our newborn to. I have been working tirelessly with a Community resource to not only reach and payoff a settlement with my last apartment, but to also get my eviction expunged so I have a clean record. We're almost done with the process but it won't be done in enough time for us to pay for the room OR to get us into an apartment next week.
If you could help with any donation big or small, it would work wonders for our physical and mental health. Not only is this taking a toll on me, but my children as well.
We are asking for $6000 so we can pay to get our belongings out of the car, to pay for a month's rent for our hotel, and to potentially find us a car to get us from point A to B and safely bring our baby home from the birthing center.
We've been trying to keep our head up and focus on Jesus, but things are getting beyond tight, and it's draining us mentally, physically, and emotionally. You all have helped before and your generosity doesn't go unappreciated.
If you read this far, thank you so much and God bless. ❤️
