I'm raising money to help pay for my grandson's exorbitant medical costs. Jacob hasn’t even turned two, and he has already had seven surgeries and has racked up over $200,000 in medical costs. Jacob was born two months early, and his airway hadn’t developed. The doctors told us that his airway was about the size of a coffee straw. He had to have a tracheostomy early on. They also realized that he has central apnea. When he gets into a deep sleep, his brain simply forgets to keep breathing. He requires nurses 24 hours a day. Most nights you can hear one or more alarms, indicating he is in distress, going off throughout the night. In July 2023 Jacob came down with pneumonia. It was was the fourth time this year. One night, he stopped breathing 60 times. The next day his nurse said that she would not be coming back. She said it was too stressful to try and keep him alive all night long when he gets sick. They have lost three other nurses for the same thing. Now when Jacob gets any kind of illness, he has to be admitted to ICU at children’s. He has a very long journey to get through this. One we hope and pray he lives through it.
