Help my family's application to leave Afghanistan

Since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in August, I have been deeply concerned about the welfare of my immediate family. I worry about the fate of my whole country these days. But, because it is known that I am in the U.S., and because my family is Shia, a minority faith group whose rights are in jeopardy under Taliban rule, my family is especially vulnerable.

Right now, my only real hope of getting my family to safety is through applying for Humanitarian Parole . To apply, I need to submit an application for each of my five family members. This GoFundMe would support their application fees, which are $575 per person. I hope to be able to submit their application as soon as possible with your support. An acquaintance of mine who is an immigration lawyer is assisting me pro bono and is going to continue to support me through the process.

For those who don’t know my story: fourteen years ago, I came to the U.S. for the first time as a young exchange student from western Afghanistan. For the past five years, I have been living in Austin with my host family, working to serve the refugee community here while I wait for my own application for asylum to be processed.
