Help Kitty get wheels (an electric wheelchair)
Donation protected
Hello everyone, my name is Kitty.
I am 18 years old and I have Long Covid and now live with symptoms that have changed my daily life. Over the last 4 years, I have had to learn how to live with this new disability. Before I got Covid I was a fitness freak, aerial trapeze artist, horse rider, and ballet dancer of 10 years.
Now I constantly struggle to balance my activity with rest, and often have to choose between studying/socialising then dealing with the crash that always comes or staying at home, missing out, falling behind and resting. It can be hard for people to understand and it's very isolating. Over the years I have hired out mobility scooters for outings with my family and have enjoyed the freedom, it gave me hope there's something else than staying at home bored in bed but I admit it's taken some time to accept things have changed and that it is going to take longer than we thought to get better. All my energy goes into managing daily living activities, the normal things young people do without even thinking like showering and studying, so I can't get a job right now, but I want to in the future which is why going to college is so important to me. I try to attend regularly but often run out of energy so I fall asleep in class, find it hard to concentrate or experience chronic pain. Having my own mobility aid would help manage my symptoms and achieve my full potential. The only way I have managed to get into college at all is with medication that is prescribed privately. It is expensive but without medication, I was stuck in bed, with almost no mobility for a year. It's taking me a long time to accept where I am right now, but I'm ready to make the most of what I can do. So I am asking for donations to help me complete my education and hopefully have an independent future (oh and have a social life outside of FaceTime calls), by getting my own lightweight mobility chair.
I would like to get one that is designed for young people to use as an aid to daily tasks. It costs around £3,000 which I understand is a lot of money however this is the cost of a good basic one, for an all-terrain one can cost up to £11,000 which is why every little donation is greatly appreciated. Even if it's just £5, that's £5 closer to helping me achieve independence as a teenager entering adulthood.
