Help Jordan Ramsey Recover from Chronic Lyme Disease/Mold Illness
The Ramseys have impacted so many of our lives, including mine. This summer I traveled to El Salvador with their life changing organization, His Hands His Feet, which ministers to children living in orphanages. It was one of the best weeks of my life! I also serve with Jenni in RTwelve, a Christian high school service organization that she started last year in TX. I love their family dearly and I’m excited to be supporting them in a very difficult time in their lives through this fundraiser. The Ramseys give away their lives to help others. Now we have a chance to help them!
The Ramsey’s oldest son, Jordan, is an extraordinarily gifted, young man who has a huge heart to serve others, just like his family. Jordan was a nationally ranked debater in both high school and college and was recruited to the Liberty University Debate Team. He has also been a leader in youth groups, service organizations like Intl. Justice Mission and in his college campus ministry. After graduating from college, Jordan had dreams of pursuing his calling to serve in government, but his debilitating illness has put that to a halt. Not only was he unable to debate in his final year of college, but this three year health battle currently has him spending most days in bed.
Jordan’s symptoms began when he moved to Liberty University in Virginia in the fall of 2020. After battling several illnesses, including Strep and Covid, he began experiencing a chronic sore throat, sinus issues and fatigue. Unfortunately, his symptoms digressed throughout college. After two frustrating years, seeing numerous doctors and specialists without receiving any answers, he had a tonsillectomy in the spring of 2021. Unfortunately, this did not improve his symptoms.
In May of 2022, a doctor sent Jordan to the ER due to alarming concerns. They found nothing in the ER. Jordan began to see naturopathic physicians on his quest for answers. In May of 2022, test results revealed very high levels of mold toxins/Candida in his body, for which he began treatment, including regular sauna sessions for detoxification.
To Jordan’s grave disappointment, the symptoms continued to worsen. His ENT recommended a sinus surgery, which took place over Thanksgiving break, 2022. While his breathing improved, the chronic symptoms did not. Four months later, Medi-Share denied coverage of the sinus surgery, stating that there were pre-existing conditions. This determination was made due to his tonsillectomy earlier that year. The Ramseys have been working diligently with Baylor, Scott and White Surgicare - Plano to lessen the $59,000 due bill. Jordan’s application for financial assistance was recently denied by Baylor, Scott and White, to his shock. The manager of the surgery center recently told the Jordan that the corporate office was working to find grants or organizations that would be able to alleviate this expense. This is still TBD. Jordan has been reassured that he will not be sent to collections while this is in process.
The 2022 fall school year was the beginning of Jordan’s senior year. He had much excitement as he began his last year as a varsity, nationally ranked debater. He and his partner were expected to be very competitive nationally. Sadly, Jordan was unable to debate at all due to chronic sore throats, fatigue, headaches, and gut issues. He supported his debate team as a coach but did this while working through tremendous grief as he watched his college debate career came to a screeching halt. The Lord taught him many powerful lessons through this season, but it was very hard. Jordan’s college ministry, Campus Outreach, was extremely encouraging during that time. His debate team also provided wonderful support.
Jordan graduated from Liberty University with Honors Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Government: Politics & Policy and a minor in International Relations in May of 2023, after which he moved home to focus on his health. Since returning home, his health has deteriorated.
After months of researching doctors who specialize in treating mold/environmental illnesses, Jordan began seeing Dr. Ingels and began aggressive treatment. These treatments include sublingual immunotherapy. He also began a very restrictive diet due to the discovery of extreme food allergies and purchased a home sauna for detoxification. Dr. Ingels performed more tests, which revealed Lyme Disease. This has most likely been the root of his illness for the past three years. Dr. Ingels also specializes in treating Lyme Disease. His recovery from his own battle with Lyme years ago led him to begin his practice. Jordan recently added medications for Lyme Disease to his protocol. He also began Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, which is extremely costly. Unfortunately, none of these medications or therapies are covered by insurance.
Lyme Disease is a debilitating, blood-borne, bacterial disease that is often difficult to detect. Many doctors refer to Lyme Disease as “the great imitator” because its symptoms are similar to so many other illnesses, including Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Long Covid, Alzheimers, Multiple Sclerosis, etc. Lyme and mold illness often go hand in hand, triggering one other. Lyme patients often suffer from inflammation, low immune systems, gut issues, and other neurological symptoms that can go undiagnosed for years. This is exactly what Jordan has experienced.
Lyme Disease is a highly debated illness in the medical community. While acute Lyme Disease patients can sometimes recover from antibiotics, chronic Lyme patients require much more intense treatments, which are rarely covered by insurance companies. Jordan’s family has spent over $25,000 over the past year for his medical expenses.
The Ramseys discovered mold in their home this spring after hiring a mold specialist. They spent thousands of dollars for remediation and the house was certified as mold free. This has been a very challenging season for Jordan as well as for his family as they work through ongoing health issues and crushing medical expenses.
Since Jordan is 21, he is now liable for all of his medical costs, including the $59,000 surgery expense, which is still being negotiated. His chronic health conditions prohibit him from working. He spends most days resting in his room due to headaches, gut pain, muscle pain, brain fog and a chronic sore throat. This spring, unpaid ENT bills were sent to collections in Jordan’s name while the Ramseys were still negotiating the costs. As you can imagine, this has been an incredibly difficult and frustrating journey for Jordan and his family. They are currently deep in medical debt and are unable to pay for Jordan’s new medical costs as he battles Lyme Disease.
Please consider joining us in helping with Jordan’s medical costs. He can’t do this alone. The money raised through this fundraiser will cover his Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapies (HBOT), which is believed to kill Lyme Disease, as well as his sublingual immunotherapies for mold/Candida and other allergies, Lyme medications, ongoing medical consultations with Dr. Ingels, and some of Jordan’s outstanding medical debt.
Jordan and his family believe STRONGLY in the power of prayer. Please pray with us first and foremost for his COMPLETE HEALING. Secondly, join us in praying that the surgery center will find a way to expunge the $59K balance. The Ramseys have already paid $10K for the surgery.
UPDATE on Oct 12: Jordan received a $12K bill for the anesthesia from the sinus surgery. Please pray with us as we continue negotiating all surgery costs.
“Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives POWER to the faint,
and to him who has no might he INCREASES STRENGTH.
Even youths shall faint and be weary,
And young men shall fall exhausted,
but THEY WHO WAIT FOR THE LORD SHALL RENEW THEIR STRENGTH,
they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:28-31
Jordan’s goal is to move to DC this spring to begin his career in government. He has a deep heart for justice, a hunger for pursuing truth and a love for Jesus. His faith has sustained him through this intensely difficult trial. Jordan loves to learn, study, read and engage others with spiritual concepts. Our world desperately needs godly, young men like Jordan who will boldly proclaim truth with love and compassion. Let’s help Jordan to get better so he can get to DC and make a long lasting impact on critical policies affecting our nation.
Thank you for praying, helping and supporting this amazing, godly, world-changing young man! - Tiffany Buri
“All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them.“ - Acts 4:32-34
