Let’s help Jon and Darcie Cavotta defeat cancer
Donation protected
Here is a little update on my stepdad’s journey. They have found 2 additional spots on his spine besides the original one at his tailbone. Treatments are now extended due to the findings. The spot on his upper back is taking priority over the other two lower spots. This means more trips to Boston and an even longer hospital stays.
Recently my step Dad, Jon Cavotta was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Chordoma. Chordoma is a type of bone cancer that affects the spine. A chordoma diagnosis will affect 1 in 1 million Americans. Due to its rarity he will need to travel to Boston for treatment. Mass General has a Chordoma Center that specializes this type of cancer. Unfortunately treatment will be for a duration of 5 weeks of specialized Proton Radiation therapy followed by surgery with an inpatient hospital stay. After that he will recover at home with daily visiting nurses. There is a 25% chance of infection so this part is crucial to avoid any complications. Once recovered they will return to Boston for 3 more weeks of daily radiation.
This diagnosis and intensive treatment schedule will completely take Jon out of work and will immensely limit the amount my mom (Darcie Goudreau Cavotta) will be able to work. We are reaching out to anyone who can help them financially in any way possible. If you are able to donate to help ease their burden of living expenses, travel and lodging expense and medical bills or even just send some prayers we would deeply welcome it.
My mom and Jon have been there for us and many other people without hesitation and we know how hard this is for them to ask for help. Please know anything you can do will be greatly appreciated beyond words
