Our son Oliver, only 2 years old, was in a car accident that changed his life—and ours—forever. He is quadriplegic. A few days ago, we arrived in Chicago for a surgery that was vital: the fusion of his spine to his skull.
Since then, things have gotten more complicated. He needed a second surgery to stabilize his spine from the front due to the instability of his injury. He has suffered a stroke and is still fighting to stay alive. This surgery would not have been possible in Mexico, and returning to Germany is not an option. The medical bill in the U.S. has already exceeded $900,000, and we have no insurance. It breaks our hearts to ask for help, but we have no other choice. We do not have the means to continue supporting him. Our love for our son is greater than our pride.
This GoFundMe, created by our friends, has been the way we’ve been able to pay for his ventilator, intensive care, and medical equipment, as well as continue giving our twins a stable life. We ask for help from anyone who can support us—by sharing our story, by donating, by sending love to Oli. He hasn’t given up. Neither will we. But we can’t do this alone.

Nuestro hijo Oliver, de solo 2 años, sufrió un accidente automovilístico que cambió su vida y la nuestra para siempre. Es cuadripléjico. Hace unos días llegamos a Chicago para una cirugía que era vital, la fijación de su columna vertebral con su cabeza. Desde entonces, todo se ha complicado. Necesitó una segunda cirugía para fijar su columna desde el frente debido a la inestabilidad de su lesión. Ha tenido un derrame cerebral y sigue luchando por mantenerse con vida. Esta cirugía no sería posible en México y regresar a Alemania no es una opción. La cuenta médica en USA ya supera los 900 mil dólares y no tenemos seguro. Nos rompe el alma tener que pedir, pero no tenemos otra opción. No tenemos los recursos para seguir ayudándolo, nuestros amor por nuestro hijo es más grande que nuestro orgullo. Unser Sohn Oliver, erst 2 Jahre alt, hatte einen Autounfall, der sein Leben – und unseres – für immer verändert hat. Er ist querschnittsgelähmt. Vor ein paar Tagen sind wir nach Chicago gekommen, um eine lebenswichtige Operation durchführen zu lassen: die Verbindung seiner Wirbelsäule mit seinem Schädel.
Seitdem hat sich alles weiter verkompliziert. Er musste sich einer zweiten Operation unterziehen, bei der seine Wirbelsäule von vorne stabilisiert wurde, da seine Verletzung sehr instabil war. Er hat einen Schlaganfall erlitten und kämpft weiterhin ums Überleben. Diese Operation wäre in Mexiko nicht möglich gewesen, und eine Rückkehr nach Deutschland ist keine Option. Die Krankenhausrechnung in den USA übersteigt bereits 900.000 Dollar, und wir haben keine Versicherung. Es zerreißt uns das Herz, um Hilfe bitten zu müssen, aber wir haben keine andere Wahl. Uns fehlen die Mittel, um ihn weiter zu unterstützen – unsere Liebe zu unserem Sohn ist größer als unser Stolz.
