We, Vilamoura United, are desperately seeking help in fighting our HOA and management company over an emergency special assessment of approximately $27,000 per homeowner, an amount that many families in our community simply cannot afford. Our management company and our Vilamoura HOA Board have given homeowners only one month to somehow come up with this enormous amount of money, and if we do not pay are threatening liens and foreclosures . creating an incredible amount of financial and emotional stress throughout our community, especially amongst vulnerable seniors which makes up over 60 percent of the overall residents . What is especially frustrating is that this expense was foreseeable and should not have been treated as an emergency, our Board had knowledge of the issues and had opportunities to plan and prepare for these costs rather than placing the burden on homeowners with virtually no warning. We feel that our Board have not been transparent or acting in the best interests of the homeowners. Important information has been withheld, questions have gone unanswered, and we believe homeowners have not been given the full picture. Many of us are doing everything we can to fight this assessment, but we need YOUR help, guidance, and accountability. This is not simply about money, it is about families being put under extreme financial pressure after saving up their entire lives to purchase a home believing in the American dream , seniors worried about having to come out of retirement , and homeowners feeling completely unheard and misled by the very people who are supposed to represent and protect our community.
