Help Hans leg amputation and second surgery
Donation protected
I rescued Hans in August of 2022 from an amazing rescue after his old "owner" surrendered him to the pound with a horrible leg infection.
The rescue took him in immediately to get him help and I became his foster. I quickly fell in love with him and felt he is my "soul dog". I offered to adopt him to take over his medical care because the rescue had already put so much time, money, and resources into him.
I continued to treat his infection and was getting him ready for a surgical biopsy so we could more aggressively fight the MRSA. Unfortunately, just before we began the kennel rest for that Hans had an accident that caused significant damage to his already injured leg.
After rushing him to the emergency vet and consulting with the dermatologist, surgeon, and vet it was determined that due to the extent of his injury amputation was his only option. The main concern being with the new injury exposing bone that there is a greater risk for the infection to spread.
With Hans being a Great Dane, amputation was the very last option and would not have been done unless it was absolutely necessary. Right now our only concern is his quality of life.
After the amputation Hans was sent home with the wrong size E collar. This gave him the opportunity to open up his staples the other night while I was sleeping. The vets off is working with me by not charging me for his daily bandage changes and discounting the closure surgery. However, this has still created quite the hardship and any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I would do absolutely anything for this dog. He is the sweetest, most special boy and he deserves the best life. When I adopted him I promised to give it to him.
