Help for the Gedney Family ❤️

Donation protected

On December 22, 2020 just three days shy of Christmas, our beloved family member and dear friend,  Kevin Gedney died suddenly from severe acute liver and kidney failure.

Kevin was a wonderful man, a loving husband to Kim, his wife of thirty years, and devoted father to their two young children Victoria, 13 and Billy, 12. Kevin’s unexpected and sudden death has devastated Kim and their children, emotionally and financially.

Earlier this year, Kevin, like so many others, lost his job due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, Kevin lost his family medical insurance. While he eventually obtained medical insurance through a state-sponsored Medicaid program, it covered far less than his previous medical insurance policy. In addition to the loss of his medical insurance, Kevin also lost his employer sponsored life insurance policy.

Little could they imagine the true cost of these events just a few short months later.

During this past summer/early fall, Kevin began to grow very weak. He had frequent bouts of nausea, severe abdominal pain, and was losing weight. This was the beginning of an extremely rapid decline in Kevin’s health. He was hospitalized many times, but there was no treatment plan developed. One thing became clear, though: Kevin needed a liver transplant and he needed one fast. Unfortunately, needing one and getting one are two entirely different things.

While Kevin’s health was quickly deteriorating, Kevin and Kim, along with Victoria and Billy, quietly celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on November 24th, hoping for the call that would tell them Kevin would be getting a transplant. Tragically, that call never came, and, on December 16th, just two short weeks later, Kevin was rushed by ambulance to the emergency room. It was the last time Victoria and Billy would see their father. After four days in a hospital in Rhode Island, Kevin was transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital.  Kevin died two days later after slipping into a coma shortly after his arrival. His last words would be spoken to the nurse triaging him upon arrival- “how long do you think it will be until I get a transplant?”

Unbelievably, this whole heartbreaking turn of events – from Kevin’s first symptoms to his death – happened in only 3 months.

Kim is now dealing with the devastating and unexpected loss of her husband, best friend and child-hood sweetheart while trying to remain strong for Victoria and Billy. With no life insurance or savings to fall back on, she is now faced with being the sole means of support for herself and two young children.

It is for these reasons we are humbly asking for everyone’s help in raising funds for Kim and her children. All donations will go directly to Kim to help her with living expenses for herself and her children. We understand that the Covid-19 pandemic has been tough on everyone. Any amount is truly appreciated. If you are unable to donate at this time we ask that you please share our campaign across multiple social media platforms, help us spread the word, and encourage others to donate.

Thank you so much for your support and generosity.
