HELP FOR OUR SOCIETY

Hi all, my name is Saimaruhan I am performing ultra challange 100K charity walking on the 10th of June 2023 in Lake District for the charity "OUR SOCIETY UNITED KINGDOM (OSUK) -Charity Number : 1188481. They support students from remote villages in Srillanka to elevate their educational level and well being.

I am a keen fitness and sports enthusiast and as such have completed many half marathons and marathons for various charities since 2013, including in the London Marathon twice. I have also completed Ultra Challenges such as the 100K walks in the Cotswolds, Jurassic Coast, Isle of Wight, London to Brighton, South Coast to mention but a few.

Our Society (OS) is a well-known charity with the vision of improving the education of Tamil children from lower-income backgrounds in Sri Lanka. OSUK was established in 2016 and has developed into a major contributor to elevating the educational level, in the Districts Amparai, Batticaloa, Trinco, Killinochchi and

Upcountry.

So far their educational activities are as follows:

1. Supporting 56 remote village schools with 127 teachers, conducting additional classes for students in Grade 1 – GCE (O/L). This includes students with slow learning.

2. Seven centres conducting evening and weekend tuition classes for GCE (O/L) students.

3. Conducting 20 seminars (in collaboration with Education department) by Specialist teachers in Maths in Eastern Regions amounting to 5000 students preparing for GCE (O/L) .

4. Assisting 80 University undergraduates from these villages, with cost of food and accommodation. These students attend different universities in different courses. The cost per student varies from Rs 5000 to Rs 15000 per month.

5. Provided newly built or renovated classrooms, drinking water and toilet facilities to 12 schools.

We have honest, dedicated and experienced volunteers/coordinators in each area to supervise, assess and guide the students. The Local OS Trustees maintain transparent accounting. The activities are monitored monthly by Zoom meetings.

The charity is totally run by the donations from people like you. The donors are kept well informed of the activities by WhatsApp messages with photographs.
