17 year old School of the Arts (SOA) student Haleigh Markham and her family need your love, encouragement and any financial support you are able to donate due to her traumatic brain injury (TBI)!
Haleigh was involved in a traumatic accident July 3rd resulting in a fractured skull and a subdural hematoma (blood on brain). She received treatment at Trident Medical Center during her 6 night hospital stay on the Trauma Team service. She was seen by many specialties during this time, including but not limited to, Trauma; Neurosurgery (no surgery required); Physiatry (doctor specializing in brain injuries and rehab); Physical therapy; Occupational therapy; and Speech therapy. Haleigh will continue Brain Injury Rehab until further notice. Her family graciously appreciates any funds given to help cover medical costs endured during this hospital stay and further treatments required. As with any brain injury patient, each person demonstrates symptoms and recovery individually. What we do know is Haleigh has a 6 month recovery period ahead of her. Physically, she will recover fully and look like the Haleigh we all know and love. For brain injury patients, it's the headaches, nausea, light sensitivity, personality changes, low frustration tolerance, fatigue, and potential cognitive changes only further testing and time will present. Our HaleighBug needs your love, encouragement, and support! Any donation not too small. Her family will use all funds donated to cover medical expenses. Provided link is official page for Traumatic Brain Injuries. http://www.traumaticbraininjury.com/

On August 18th there will be a fundraiser held for Haleigh at Cory's Grilled Cheese, 1739 Maybank Hwy, Charleston, SC 29412. Tickets are $10 at the door and the bands playing will be announced in the coming weeks. Come down and show your support!
