It is with a heavy heart that we inform our family, friends and soccer community of the sad and tragic passing of Ricardo Rivera-Glogau, first born son to Marcela Glogau. Ricardo passed away on May 14 from a lifelong illness which he fought bravely with a smile and living life to the fullest. The many friends and acquaintances that knew Ricardo, knew of his big heart and love for helping others particularly in soccer.
Ricardo was a native of Bolivia and at the age of 10, migrated to the Northern Virginia with his mother. Attending Reston Middle School and graduating from Robinson Secondary School, class of 2010. Ricardo from an early age showed a passion for the sport of soccer and helping others. After graduating and taking some time to focus on himself, he involved himself in helping his community by coaching youth soccer. Ricardo quickly earned the respect of his local soccer community by looking out for the welfare of those players he coached. His leadership of young men pushed his players who would go on to win multiple championships, including earning 2nd place at the Regional Championships. The success of the players was more important to him than money and some would say sleep. Ricardo was planning on starting school in the fall of 2021 to get a degree in education and sports, for one reason to be able to coach.
As we say goodbye to a young and talented coach, it is important to understand that Ricardo’s vision of competitive soccer was that all deserving players should be able to afford it. To this end while he worked the graveyard shifts, he used his earning to help players be it purchase cleats, soccer balls and at times even buy a player a meal.
The funds raised will be used to start a scholarship fund that supports Ricardo’s vision of helping deserving players. Marcela has asked that a fund under his name be established and administered to ensure his vision becomes reality. Ricardo may have departed this earth young, but he lived life on his terms never asking for anything just that you do the right thing and give it your very best.
We thank you for supporting Ricardo’s vision of helping the community through the sport of soccer. “Soccer the beautiful sport, a sport where a ball and a field makes us all equals.” Coach Ricky
