Help bring Ohiyesa's story to New Zealand!

Han mitakuyepi,

Our family's film Ohiyesa: The Soul of an Indian has been accepted into the Maoriland film festival in Otaki, New Zealand! Mahasanni  (my partner) Hinhan Loud Hawk (Lakota filmmaker) and I would very much like to attend the screening on March 22nd, and look forward to participating on a panel with other Indigenous filmmakers. Though we have a portion of our travel covered, and the festival will be covering most of our lodging,  we are still in need of funding for one plane ticket, a rental car, and other basic travel costs in order to be able to make this trip a reality.  Though I am already dreading being so far away from our two sweet little ones, we also have a committed child care plan set up with family members, for which we are so grateful!! We appreciate all of the community support we have received for our film (a 12 year long labor of love for our father,  film creator Syd Beane), and now seek your assistance in bringing Ohiyesa's story, as told through the voices of his descendants, to an international audience. Most promotion for our film has been spread by word of mouth thanks to friends and relatives,  and so we are thrilled to have come this far. Our family would be honored to represent our Dakota community by sharing our history in Mni Sota with the people of Aotearoa (New Zealand), and with our Maori relatives.

Pidamayaye!

Kate, Hinhan, and tiwahe (family)
