Help Support Arick’s Fight Against Multiple Myeloma

My loving boyfriend of 12 years, Arick, is not only my rock, but also an incredible father to our two little boys (ages 5 and 1½). On Sunday, October 5th, 2025, our world changed when Arick was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma — a rare and aggressive form of bone and blood cancer that’s extremely uncommon at his young age of just 38.

How It Began:

That morning, Arick woke up unable to feel his legs. He’d been struggling with severe back and leg pain for several days, which we thought was a flare-up of sciatica. But when he tried to get out of bed and collapsed, barely able to move, I knew something was terribly wrong.

At 1:45 a.m., I rushed him to the ER, where doctors immediately began a series of tests — MRIs, X-rays, and bloodwork. Scans revealed a large mass pressing against his spine, causing the loss of feeling in his legs. Over the following days, more tests and biopsies were done. At first, doctors believed it might be lymphoma. But when the pathology results came back, they confirmed something even more unexpected — Multiple Myeloma.

The diagnosis shocked everyone. Multiple Myeloma is rare, and even more so in someone as young and otherwise healthy as Arick.

On top of everything else, during his first few hours in the hospital, Arick accidentally caught his foot on a wheelchair pedal while being transferred to the MRI table, which caused him to fracture two toes. It was such an unfortunate setback on top of the pain he was already enduring. He’s now wearing a boot for recovery and using a walker as he works hard to regain strength and feeling in his legs.

The doctors are hopeful that the steroids, which are a key part of Multiple Myeloma treatment, will help reduce the inflammation and gradually restore sensation and mobility. Through it all, Arick continues to stay positive and determined — even in the face of so many challenges.

The Road Ahead:

Since then, Arick has faced everything with remarkable strength and optimism. He’s already completed five rounds of radiation (five days a week) and began chemotherapy on October 20th, which he’ll continue weekly for several months. The doctors are hopeful — while this cancer isn’t currently curable, it can be managed, and new advancements are being made every day.

Arick’s treatment involves heavy steroids that have affected his blood sugar, making him pre-diabetic, and have required major changes in his diet. Every day brings new challenges — countless doctor visits, medication adjustments, and long hours spent learning how to navigate this new reality.

Why We Need Help:

Arick is our family’s sole provider, and while he has a few weeks of paid time off left, he’ll soon be on unpaid leave. His insurance barely covers the necessary treatments, and we’re already facing mounting bills — from hospital stays and prescriptions to rent, gas for appointments, and everyday living expenses for our two little ones.

We’re applying for assistance programs, but the process is slow and uncertain. Every little bit helps — whether it’s $5 or simply sharing this page, your support means more than words can express.

Our Hope:

Despite everything, Arick remains positive and strong — truly the heart of our family. We’re determined to fight this together, but we can’t do it alone. It breaks our hearts to ask for help, yet we know that sometimes it really does take a village.

Please send love, prayers, and healing thoughts our way. Every donation, message, and share helps us breathe a little easier as we face this battle together.

From the bottom of our hearts,
Thank you for standing with Arick, me, and our boys.
