Help Aiko Thrive in Law School

Hi everyone!
I created this GoFundMe for my dear friend Aiko who will be commencing her law school career in August 2022.  I decided to set this up for Aiko because I've known her for many years and have witnessed how she gives so much to others, especially her family. Aiko was born in Mexico and migrated to the U.S. fleeing violence with her family at the age of 2. 

I have seen how she relentlessly advocates for her undocumented community and her passion for justice. This passion, along with Aiko's experiences, has pushed her to be an agent of change in her community. She has worked as a youth organizer stopping deportations at the local level through an intersectional lens as an Afro-Latina immigrant. Aiko has worked with youth in deportation proceedings and undocumented workers who experience wage theft. She has played a role in getting justice for these clients.

Aiko's next goal is to continue her education and attend law school to continue advocating for immigrants as an attorney. This has been a 5-year journey that I have witnessed from the beginning. Her journey has not been an easy one being a first-generation immigrant and the first to go to law school in her family. Although her journey was filled with obstacles, she has begun to dismantle racial barriers in order to pursue her dreams of becoming an attorney. 

Aiko will be attending law school this fall and moving cross country to Washington DC. Because of her immigration status, Aiko does not qualify for certain student loans, leaving a heavy financial burden on her. With her JD, Aiko hopes to continue to advocate for her community.
