Hello everyone! My name is Veronica, and I am an international student from Hong Kong studying Nursing at Andrews University. Unfortunately, while I was on my way to volunteer at the AMEN clinic, a program that helps those without health insurance get physical, dental, and eye checkups, I was struck by a car. I was simply a pedestrian walking on the crosswalk half a block away from the clinic when a distracted driver hit me. From this accident, I broke both my legs and seven ribs.
你好！我是Veronica，來自香港的美國留學生，在安德魯大學修讀護理系。不幸地，意外發生前，我是一名行人，當時正在斑馬綫中上行走，正前往教會的免費診所當義工，距離診所只有半個街口。之後被一輛汽車撞了，雙腿的小腿骨和七條肋骨都斷了，而當中右腳最嚴重。
Due to my right tibia open fracture, I had emergency surgery that night. However, the doctors were wary because my right leg was missing parts of my bone. After being discharged from the hospital, I have been left requiring help with even the most basic activities. These include things such as showering, dressing, meal preparation, and transportation to my college campus. I have, currently, been experiencing persistent pain in my right leg for months now. Although the rest of my injuries have mostly healed, my right leg has left me feeling constant pain, discomfort, and emotional exhaustion. After months, when I thought my bones would finally be healed. Due to some pieces of my bone being left on the road at the time of the accident, the gap has not allowed my bones to come together and heal. And now, I currently have a bone infection because of this and will need a several more surgeries. This means more costs for rehabilitation.
由於右側脛骨開放性骨折，當晚我接受了緊急手術。出院後，我連最基本的活動都需要別人幫助，像是洗澡、穿衣、準備食物和交通。幾個月來我的腿一直疼痛。雖然隨著時間的推移，疼痛的強度已經從重度減輕到中度到輕度，但它仍然讓我感到疲倦和不舒服。它已經影響了我的日常生活。幾個月後，當我以為我的骨會逐漸痊癒時。不幸的是，事故發生時，一些骨頭碎片留在了路上，由此造成的縫隙還沒有癒合。我的骨頭也被感染了。這意味著我可能還需要進行幾次手術。以及更多的復康的費用。
Being a Nurse has been my dream for over 15 years. This accident not only left me disabled but has also destroyed my dream. My wish is for me to be able to get the surgery and rehabilitation needed so I can continue my dream of helping people who are in need.
