Help a Retired Sheriff's Deputy Save His Vision

Donation protected
David is my best friend. He just learned that he needs Emergency Retinal Reattachment Surgery or he is going to lose his vision. He is a decorated retired Sheriff's deputy and always gives to people in need.

I want to help him raise some money because he has helped so many people in his Law Enforcement career.

His right eye has had trauma during his law enforcement career and again just a few years ago from complications from the first surgery. Now, the doctors are saying he needs to have cataract surgery on his right eye or he will go blind.

David woke up a day ago and realized his right eye was very cloudy and everything was hard to see. When he went to the doc, they said that his eye lens will have to be replaced and to do it as soon as possible to restore his sight.

He needs $8,000 to help pay for his surgery for his right eye. I believe that I can help him achieve this through the beautiful people here on GoFundMe.

I just learned this today about David. I will be getting more information as it comes in.

He now has an appointment tomorrow May 20th 2025 to get the surgery done. I will update everyone as soon as I get any news.

Please help me give back to Dave so he can keep his sight.

Thank you for any and all your help.

-Tony

Update 5/26/25

So I have an update to share with everyone.

After talked with David, and he has time to get through the surgery and to rest I was able to understand what had happened to him on May 19th 2025.

David has been a patient at Meadows Eye since 2021, initially seeking care after a diagnosis of a retinal tear. When he first came to his clinic, he placed his trust in his reputation and was comforted by the professional, compassionate care provided by Dr. Alec Amram, MD. His expertise and empathy were a source of great reassurance during a frightening chapter of my life, and for that, he remain deeply thankful.

On May 18, 2025,David noticed a sudden and troubling change in his vision. Alarmed, he contacted Meadows Eye immediately. Despite the urgency of what David feared might be a serious issue, he was told the earliest available appointment was over two weeks away. After pleading his case, David was eventually given an emergency slot for May 20. It was at that visit that Dr. Amram told him that he had suffered a retinal detachment and required emergency surgery the very next day.

Dave was terrified. As he prepared for surgery at Sunrise Hospital, a procedure that would determine whether he might lose his vision permanently, he went into the pre-op area and waited for the doctor.

David went into surgery not knowing what was going on but knew he had to do something or he will loose his vision.

After about 3 hours he went into the recovery room to rest. He was given pain meds for the operation and waited and slept until he was discharged.

The was a tear on his retina and the doctor said if he would have come in any laster, even by a few days, he would have lost his vision.

The next few days were painful and David was not able to stand or sit erect because of the bubble they put in his eye to correct the damage. The bubble is resting against his eyelid and it is causing him pain from the surgery as well as having to apply special drops in his right eye every 4 hrs to help heal from the surgery and for the pain.

David started having gradual blurriness in his right eye since last Sunday. On Monday May 19th 2025 he woke up with a very dark patch over his eye and couldn't see out of it. He called me (Tony) and said he thinks he has a catarax issue in his eye and went to to see his Eye Doctor "Dr. Alec Amram". He went in the next day on May 20th and the Doctor said the Davids retina has detached and that David needed emergency surgery ASAP!

David had to be scheduled for Wednesday May 21st 2025 at 8am to repair his eye before it completely detaches he goes blind. So, David went into the pre-op area and waited for the doctor to repair his eye. I prayed with him before he went into surgery and away he went.

several hour later he was put into the recovery room and he was able to sleep and rest until he was discharged.

He is a fighter and he made it through the hardest part. The doctor said that it will take several weeks for his eye to heal from the surgery and for him to see clearly again. Everything is a process and I know that he is going to be just fine.

Thank you all for your loving donations to David. He has always tried to help anyone he could and would die his shirt off his own back to help a friend. I created this GoFindMe Page as a way for him to hopefully receive help in the time of his emergency.

David is on a fixed income and the unexpected emergency with his eye has caused a financial hardship. Between the Emergency Surgery, the Co-pay, the numerous doctor visits, transportation to and from the doctor & pharmacy, medication refills and the time off of work is something he did not plan on.

I am thankful to David for all the years he has spent in Law Enforcement helping people and making a difference in his community.

David is a decorated Law Enforcement Officer and would lay his life down for a friend.

We will take any and all donations to help with David's medical expenses to help him heal and get through this unexpected situation.

Thank you so much for all the people who have donated so far and each day are trying to get to the $8,000 mark to make sure his medical bills get taken care of.

I will be updating everyone throughout his journey and will keep everyone updated on his doctor visits as well as his eye recovery.

God bless you all!

-Tony
