Six months ago, this family opened the doors to their dream, a small, family owned soul food restaurant built with everything they had.

They invested their savings. They took the risk. They believed in their food and in their community.

The building still needs reconstruction and repairs. The reality is they simply do not have the funds to rebuild it right now. So instead of giving up, they focused on what they could control, the food and the people.

And the food is genuinely amazing.

When I shared their story in a recent video, the response was overwhelming. So many people showed love and support. There was also criticism about the building itself, criticism that does not reflect their reality. What people did not see was a hardworking family doing everything possible to stay afloat.

Before that video, they were on the verge of closing their doors.
