Help Vance Rebuild after Hurricane Ian
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Alice, and I'm fundraising for my son Daniel Vance Young.
Vance recently moved to Ft. Myers to start a new job with the Florida Wildlife Commission. He has a degree in Wildlife Management and a passion for conservation.
He was renting a house in North Ft. Myers, not far from the river, when Hurricane Ian struck. He raised all his belongings off the floor, placing them on countertops and tables, grabbed essential papers, the laptop and his dog, got in his car, and evacuated to friends in North Port. North Port was in the eye of the hurricane, but thankfully they remained safe. However, when the winds and rain finally quit, the house was an island as all surrounding roads were flooded with 3 - 4 feet of water. Thankfully, wonderful friends and co-workers were able to jet ski Vance to dry land and get him safely back down to Ft. Myers. After 4 days, Vance was finally able to return home, only to face the devastation inside his house. The storm surge had flooded everything inside. The water line was at 5 feet, submerging the furniture, TV, and everything he had placed up high. The force of the waters had even tossed the fridge on its side and destroyed his dresser and bed. Mold was already growing on his computer and clothes.
Vance is hard-working and resilient. He has already survived a Category 3 hurricane in Guam. He now faces the loss of all his property AND the need to find a new place to live. Given the destruction in Ft. Myers, rental properties will be tough to find and prices exorbitant.
We are so grateful for the many people who have asked how they can help Vance start over. Donations will be used to buy a new couch, TV, table, kitchen chairs, bed, dresser, bedding, towels and supplies, and first month's rent on an apartment somewhere.
Thank you so much for helping Vance rebuild his life after Hurricane Ian!
