Hi everyone,

This is really hard for us to share. Our sweet cat Basil passed away suddenly after becoming very sick. He had been unwell for 3–4 days leading up, and we did everything we could, taking him to a vet and then to the hospital. On the night he passed, he was diagnosed with an enlarged heart and acute congestive heart failure, and everything happened so fast. We had to make the quick and heartbreaking but loving decision to let him go peacefully so he wouldn’t suffer.

Right now, we’re just trying to figure out how to say goodbye.

Today, we were prepared to move forward with cremation, but at the last moment we felt we needed to pause and give ourselves the chance to see if burial could be possible. Everyone grieves differently, and for our family, the thought of Basil being gently wrapped and laid to rest in the earth feels comforting and grounding. Knowing his body could return to the earth and be held there brings us a sense of peace during a really painful time.

We’re hoping to raise $1,504, which covers the minimum cost for Basil’s burial at Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park in Calabasas. Being able to give him a resting place like this would mean so much to us and help our hearts feel a little less heavy.

The sudden vet and hospital costs have made it hard to afford Basil’s burial. If burial isn’t possible, we understand cremation may still be the path we take, and we truly respect all end-of-life choices.
