Help Sue and Her 16 Special Needs Rescues
Hello friends and all of the kind people who have landed on this story.
My friend Sue has had to take time off from her 30 year career as a veterinary nurse in order to help care for family who are ill. Sue's parents are her world...and on top of this she has 16 rescue animals - cats, dogs, and birds, who are basically her kids. She has spent her life devoted to animals and their care, giving them her time and love and a home. Never did she think she would be in this position.
Sue, Big Dirty the sphynx, Toby the Moluccan Cockatoo, and the rest of the family need our help. These animals were left behind, considered unadoptable, some high maintenance, some need medications and regular vet visits and therapies that Sue can’t do on her own. They needed a second chance and a forever home. They found it with Sue and she wouldn't trade them for all the world...this is why we are asking on behalf of her animal kids for help.
Sue has worked in the veterinary field for over 30 years. She studied veterinary medicine and science at Becker College, and worked a Large Animal internship at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. From working with sled dogs to working on the Sea Shepherd, to the small causes that don’t have big names, Sue has volunteered. She has done it all.
I feel as though I've known Sue for a lifetime...our friendship truly started because of her big heart. I was just a random person with 7 animals, four kids and a hubby that happened to be in the same HUGE Facebook group…when our pug Albert needed to go to the vet, Sue reached out and gave us a little advice to keep him comfy before his vet visit. This kindness is so rare in people it seems these days. I’ve come to learn that I am not the only person who Sue has helped in this way. Sue always manages to find time for her human friends, too. I am so grateful for her friendship.
The who, the why and the how...
Upkeep at the “zoo”, aka their home, can sometimes seem endless but it's always worth it…with 16 furred, naked and feathered kids…well, I’m sure you can at least try to imagine, but to name a few...food, veterinary bills, medications, litter, and basically keeping a roof over their heads, not to mention the supplies and ingredients for treats that she makes and bakes by hand and donates to others that are also worthy of a helping hand. Everybody appreciates the dog and cat treats and wood bird toys.
This fulfilling yet exhaustive work takes a lot of love and energy, and has become a full-time job. Time is invested not just for the large group home that these kids live in, but also to help out others animals in need. A great example is due to an "accidental "911 call by Bid Dirty the naked in the middle of the night, Sue was awakened by the police! Well, K9’s need treats, too! Now they receive deliveries of home made, healthy and delicious goodies on occasion. The goal is to make these donations on a regular basis…not just for our “Dogs in Blue” but need the other organizations, fosters, and families with fur kids in need that Sue has met along the way.
At any given time, there may even be a visitor like a baby squirrel who just needs a leg up to make it back to the wild and sometimes even to a forever home. Sadly, the outcome is not always so rosy. It takes a very special person to give so much knowing the chances of a possible heartbreaking outcome. Yet Sue simply cannot turn a blind eye. In fact, she needs them as much as they need her.
Sue has plans in the works to be of help to others as they forge ahead in their own journeys for the love of animals. Whether they plan to foster, adopt or simply volunteer…not everybody has the financial means needed to be angels for furry, scaled, or winged animals who inhabit this planet beside us.
Meet the crew...Big Dirty , Karen and Maria, Nathaniel, Scarlet , Ginger, Toby, Marcus, Margaret, and Ben...the 7 parakeets!
I just want to say thank you for reading Sue and Big Dirty and Family's story and let you know how much your help is appreciated! Whether it's $1 or $20, every bit helps!
