Hi everyone — I never imagined I’d be writing this, but I’m asking for help for my girl, Sookie (Yes! Sookie from Gilmore Girls).
Several years ago, I rescued Sookie (then Bella) after witnessing her being neglected in a neighbor’s backyard. She was scavenging for food, tied with a rope instead of a leash, and had zero care. After months of borderline stalking her and the family, she was kicked out in front of me — and I immediately took her home. That day changed both of our lives.
Not long after adopting her, Sookie was diagnosed with heartworms. Without hesitation, I committed to her treatment. After long months of grueling care, she became heartworm-free and finally got the healthy life she deserved. Sookie is now the sweetest, goofiest, most loving dog. She’s been my constant companion and my comfort, especially after I lost my 15-year-old furbaby last summer. She has a way of knowing exactly when she’s needed.
Recently, what was supposed to be a routine dental appointment turned into devastating news. Her pre-op bloodwork showed liver enzyme levels over 100x higher than normal, which led to additional testing — bloodwork, X-rays, ultrasounds, and aspirates. We’ve now confirmed that Sookie has a 10 cm cancerous tumor on her kidney. The only option is to remove the entire kidney as soon as possible, along with biopsies of her lymph nodes to determine what type of cancer she has and what stage of chemotherapy will be needed. The surgery and follow-up care are a significant expense, and I want to give Sookie every chance at recovery. The surgery itself is $8,300, which does not include any of the chemo treatment she'll also need afterwards.
If you know me at all, you'll know that I'll do anything to save my furbabies. I’m committed to fighting for her again — but because of this big financial commitment, this procedure seems impossible.
If you’re able to donate, share, or keep Sookie in your thoughts, it truly means more than I can express. Every contribution will go directly toward her surgery, diagnostics, and follow-up care. Any funds beyond the fundraiser amount will be used for continued cancer treatment or donated to help another dog in need.
Thank you for reading Sookie’s story and for supporting us during this incredibly hard time.
With love and gratitude,
Christina
