Support Shura to become a qualified safari guide

Amos Tajeu Shura is a young Maasai warrior who I had the pleasure of meeting during my time in Kenya in January 2024. He is bright and ambitious, hoping to become a qualified safari guide in the Nashulai Maasai conservancy; the first ever community-owned and directed wildlife conservancy.

Shura enrolled in Olderkesi Secondary School in 2020; however, obtaining the funds to get even that far in his educational journey was not easy. His family had to sell their livestock in order to afford to send their son to school, paying off school fees in tranches as and when it could be afforded.

It should not be this hard for anyone, wherever he or she may originate from, to receive basic education.

Despite all of this Shura excelled and achieved a higher education entry grade of B-.

Shura now wishes to pursue higher education at Nashulai Cultural Training Centre to become a tour guide operator.

The cost of attending Nashulai's guiding school is in the region of 250,000 Kenyan Shilling (the equivalent of around £1,500). On top of the course fees, the guiding qualification requires medical fees, appropriate apparel, successful completion of a driving test and the passing of an external exam run by the Kenyan Professional Safari Guides Association.

Shura and his family are unable to afford this after draining their resources for Shura to receive a high school education.

After connecting with Shura during my time in the Masai Mara and enjoying the hospitality of their humble home regardless of the hardships they face, I would very much like to do all that I can to help him and his family.

I am opening this fundraising page in the hope that your generosity may assist me in funding Shura's guiding qualification. If we are lucky enough to reach our goal, all excess funds will be sent directly to Shura to assist with general living expenses during his studies.

Achieving this fundraising goal would make a tremendous difference, not just to Shura's life, but also the lives of his family members and those of the wider community.
