I am reaching out to you on behalf of my incredible niece, Sarah. At just 17 years old, Sarah was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) in February 2021. Since then, she has faced immense challenges, including paralysis and the need to relearn how to walk not just once, but twice. Despite it all, Sarah has shown unwavering resilience and a positive spirit.
Unfortunately, Sarah's battle with FND has taken a toll on her health. Her non-epileptic seizures have been intensifying, lasting for agonizing hours at a time. Regrettably, the local medical resources available to her have not been adequately educated about her condition, making it difficult for her to receive the specialized care she desperately needs.
However, there is hope on the horizon. We have found a doctor in Colorado who specializes in therapy for non-epileptic seizures, and she believes she can help Sarah. The treatment program spans six weeks and offers ongoing support through online sessions once Sarah returns home.
As you can imagine, accessing this specialized care comes at a significant cost. We estimate that the treatment expenses alone will range from $8,000 to $10,000. This amount does not even cover the additional costs of accommodation, such as hotel or Airbnb, and transportation, including car rentals.
This is where we need your generous support. By contributing to this GoFundMe campaign, you can play a crucial role in helping Sarah regain her independence and improve her quality of life. Your donations will directly cover the costs of the treatment program, allowing her to receive the care she desperately needs.
It's essential to shed light on what FND truly is and dispel some of the negative stereotypes surrounding it. FND is a complex neurological condition that affects the functioning of the nervous system, causing a range of debilitating symptoms. It is not a psychogenic or attention-seeking disorder, as some misconceptions suggest. FND requires specialized treatment from professionals who understand its intricacies.
We believe that by supporting Sarah, we can raise awareness about FND and help break down these stereotypes, paving the way for more compassionate and informed care for others facing similar challenges.
Sarah's journey has been a testament to her strength and optimism. No donation is too small, and every contribution brings us one step closer to our goal.
Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and generosity. Together, we can make a real difference in Sarah's life and inspire others facing similar battles.
Updates and progress on Sarah's journey will be shared regularly to keep you informed of the impact you're making. Let's stand with Sarah and show her that she is not alone in this fight.
