Help Sam Fight Debilitating Infections

Donation protected
It’s been a long and arduous journey for this young man, our son Sam, who just turned 20 years old and has not had a “normal” life for the last seven years. Sam's teenage years were filled with fatigue, weakness, body pains, myocarditis, POTS, headaches, sleep problems, memory loss, neuropathy, demyelination of his nerves, muscle atrophy and more symptoms than I care to mention. Those years were NOT filled with sports games, gatherings with friends or fun times. It’s been rough watching that.

We are grateful that Sam can walk again after years in the wheelchair and crawling through the house, thanks to expensive IVIG treatment which is partially covered by insurance. But it is also true that he has recently plateaued. Sadly, he had to defer his second semester at Ursinus College; he was totally exhausted after the first semester and regressing but even so he made the Dean’s List. His dream & career goal is to become a neuroscientist. So, giving up is simply not an option for his parents. We are people of faith and we also believe in the importance of the human struggle when confronted with hurdles, such as medical mysteries. We accept the struggle and we have his back.

Last year, when we visited the Center for Advanced Medicine in Frankfurt, I met with Dr. Siebenhüner, a physician who sees patients with chronic diseases on a regular basis and also provides additional care for cancer patients. He recommended hyperthermia treatment for Sam. Julia had already been studying this so we were intrigued. When Sam plateaued we looked further into it and have received votes of support from his doctors here. The treatment is in clinical trials in the US but only for cancer and won't be available any time soon. It is available across Europe and other parts of the world. Simply put, Sam will be under high fever conditions for several hours in a hospital setting, under anesthesia and in the care of several physicians, including a cardiologist. Under those conditions Borellia and other harmful bacteria can be effectively eliminated – and those are among the root causes for his condition.

You can read about the procedure here: https://www.erweiterte-medizin.de/en/therapies/lyme-borreliosis/ .  The treatment costs around 10,000 Euros for one treatment (he may need a total of two) and insurance in the US will not cover this - even though results have been published and have been remarkable for many.

If you’d care to help us, you can make a donation on this Go-Fund-Me-Page.

Maybe it will take a whole community to get Sam well after all!
