She’s Smart, Broke, and Trying—Help Sabina Make It Through

Hi friends,

Sabina here — film nerd, proud Mexican, Latine advocate, and someone who's been working hard to build a career telling stories that matter. I came to the U.S. to earn my MFA at USC, and since then, I’ve built a life I care deeply about: real friendships, a job I love, and the chance to use my work to uplift underrepresented voices. Somewhere along the way, I think I found home.

Now I’m at a tough crossroads. I’m applying for a new visa so I can keep living and working here — but the process is expensive and time-sensitive. Thanks to some incredibly generous support (for which I’m truly grateful), I’ve already covered the cost of my rockstar legal team. But I still need to raise $10,000 to cover the government filing and processing fees — and to get by during the few weeks I’m not legally allowed to work (rent, student loans, insurance, food, car expenses, etc.).

If you’re able to contribute, share, or even just send some good vibes, I’d be incredibly grateful. Truly — every bit helps.

Soy Sabina — amante del cine, orgullosamente mexicana, defensora de la comunidad latina, y alguien que ha trabajado muy duro para construir una carrera contando historias que importan. Vine a Estados Unidos para hacer mi maestría en la USC, y desde entonces he construido una vida que me importa profundamente: amistades reales, un trabajo que amo, y la oportunidad de usar mi voz para impulsar a quienes no siempre tienen espacio para ser escuchadxs. En el camino, creo que encontré un hogar.

Ahora estoy en un momento complicado. Estoy aplicando a una nueva visa para poder seguir viviendo y trabajando aquí — pero el proceso es caro y muy limitado por el tiempo. Gracias al apoyo generoso de varias personas (por el cual estoy infinitamente agradecida), ya pude cubrir el costo de mi increíble equipo legal. Pero aún necesito reunir $10,000 para cubrir los costos de gobierno y para sobrevivir durante las semanas en las que no tengo permitido trabajar legalmente (renta, préstamos estudiantiles, seguro médico, comida, el coche, etc.).
