Help Rita Fund Her Education

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Rita Shibli, I am 24 years old and currently studying General Medicine in Bolgorod, Russia in hopes to be a doctor. I started studying in 2016/2017 and now I am half way through my degree. However, due to the Lebanese economic situation, my plans have been deeply affected, as we are unable to pay off the rest of the tuition for this and the upcoming years. As my last resort, I can’t but to make this fundraiser for me in an attempt to complete my education and receive my degree, which is due to be completed in 2024.

Below I shall explain my story, how changes I can’t control affected me, and what my situation is.

My beginnings:

I am a Lebanese citizen who was born in Brazil and raised in Lebanon from the age of 9 up until my teenage years at 19 years old when I decided to pursue a degree in General Medicine in Belgorod, Russia. I am now in my third year of this course and I have three years left.

Ever since I was young, I’ve always wanted to push life’s boundaries and see what it had to offer. I come from humble beginnings; my dad is a simple businessman who helps people import & export supplies.  He has been absolutely great and supportive of his family. When I decided to qualify as a doctor abroad, I wanted to take action to make that plan a reality, I took a part time job while in school at McDonald’s, and had the same role full-time during the summer so that I could slowly begin to save enough money for an application and plane ticket to Russia.

I applied and received my acceptance in 2016, and at that time I had been working at that job for around a year and a half and had saved enough money to fly out. Excited and determined, I packed my bags and set off on this adventure. I was living a content life then. My parents were making enough money to support me with the tuition fees and rent throughout my first 2 academic years and my plan seemed to be working out perfectly, as I believed I was on the way to become a doctor.

What changed:

2020 has been a chaotic and difficult year for everyone around the world as it has put all our lives on hold. Moreover, it has put people, businesses and governments under substantial economic strain. It has challenged the dreams of millions of people, and is currently challenging mine. This couldn’t be truer for Lebanon because regardless of the ongoing COVID-19 situation, Lebanon has been in constant turmoil, and now is facing it’s biggest challenge brought on from corruption. The political class and their poor governance has led my country into financial ruin, with little sign of hope.

As if things couldn’t get worse, the explosion in the Beirut ports on August 4th seriously compounded the problem, adding billions to the financial crisis. The sequence of events has thrown the country in a deep economic crisis forcing the corrupted government to impose unreasonable bank sanctions on its people, causing the Lebanese pound to lose 90% of its value in only a year. People are suffering, growing hungry, and losing their homes and some supermarkets are shutting their doors. This means that I cannot rely on my family to support me at this time as they are working hard to merely survive themselves.

My situation:

Ever since the crisis, I have been working tirelessly to support myself to pay rent and living expenses. As some may know, students who are on a visa are not allowed to work in Russia unless you have another visa stating otherwise. Therefore, finding a job was particularly difficult. However, I have managed to sustain myself with some help from friends and freelance work that I do for acquaintances whom I have met during my time here. Yet, it is still too little for me to be able to pay my rent, living expenses, debts and installments.

I shall provide a breakdown of costs for all my expenses and I will be eternally grateful for anyone who can help me.

I am asking you for $15,000 to help pay for:

- My second tuition instalment which was due in February 2021 ($2000)
- Debt from friends and acquaintances for tuition fees and rent in August 2020 ($2000)
- My tuition fees for the next academic year 2021-22', visa renewal, university health insurance and commission ($4000)
-My tuition fees for my final academic year 2022-23' ($4000)
- One year of rent ($200/month -- $2400/year)
- One year’s food supply for rough times. ($600/year -- $50/month)

I have been living paycheck to paycheck and eating largely rice for as long as I can remember and so I would really appreciate anyone who can help me in my time of need as this is my last resort. A share of my campaign or the smallest donation will be greatly appreciated because every little will absolutely help.

I have set my target at $16000 due to the 2.9% cut and $0.3/ donation that GoFundMe will take. I don’t have the highest hopes to reach my target as it is a large sum, but any amount of money will go a long way for me.

I really want to complete my studies so that I can fulfil my ambitions of working as a doctor and doing some good in the world.

Please feel free to email me at '[email redacted]' with any questions you may have as I will be happy to answer all of them.

Thank you in advance to anyone who will help me get my campaign out there.

Kind Regards,

Rita
