Please help Paul return home for urgent Medical Treatment
Urgent Help Needed for My Brother, Paul
Dear Friends and Family,
As many of you know, my brother, Paul William Davis, and I recently traveled to Vietnam for what was meant to be his first-ever overseas adventure. Unfortunately, just a few hours into our journey, Paul began coughing on the plane, which quickly escalated into severe breathing difficulties.
By Friday December 6th, his condition had worsened to the point where he was gasping for breath after climbing just two steps. When I noticed his lips turning blue and his face looking grey, I urged him to visit the hospital in Ha Long Bay.
What we thought was a minor chest infection turned out to be far more serious. Doctors diagnosed him with respiratory failure and pneumonia, with fluid filling his lungs. They immediately recommended intubation and an induced coma to save his life.
This has been devastating for us, and now we face another crisis: the medical bills. Paul’s treatment costs are already at $15,000 USD (about $24,000 AUD) after just three days, and the hospital has warned us this will increase daily. The travel insurance company is still deciding whether they will cover his care, leaving us with no immediate way to pay.
The hospital has also mentioned the possibility of transferring Paul to a public hospital with far fewer resources, which is not an option we want to consider given his fragile state.
I’m not in a financial position to cover these enormous costs. I care full-time for someone with a disability and our 83-year-old mother, who is still recovering from bowel cancer. This has been overwhelming for all of us.
We’re asking for your help to support Paul’s treatment. Every dollar—big or small—will make a difference in keeping him in a safe and supportive environment to recover.
Please share this page with your networks to help us during this critical time. Paul means so much to us, and we’re desperate to get him through this.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Karen (Sister, with Paul in Vietnam)
