Help For Patka! Recovery Fund from Breast Cancer.

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Patrycja; some know me as Patka.

You probably know me as the owner of Fermata School of Music in Lucan, Co. Dublin (Ireland).

Why am I here asking for your support? I have been a violinist and violin teacher for the last 30 years. Creating music and teaching has been my whole life. I love to teach children and see how they develop their violin skills over the time they spend with me. With my husband, Tomasz, I own a lovely music school - Fermata, in Co. Dublin. The place where together with my fellow teachers, we grow future musicians and build creative personalities.

In July 2022, I was diagnosed with BREAST CANCER - a second time! Yes, I am in a small group of patients with cancer recurrence fifteen years after the first instance - my original diagnosis was in 2007, and a mastectomy meant to with the problem - once and for good! How wrong was I!

Full recovery is possible, and my survival chances are very high, but the route ahead will be very bumpy. But I am strong! Thanks to the fantastic support of my husband, daughter, family and my dear friends. Since July, I have undergone several chemotherapy sessions, with breast surgery planned for early December. Following surgery recovery, five weeks of radiotherapy are on the cards.

Unfortunately, since chemotherapy works its magic, killing the tumour, it also develops many side effects. Aside from losing nearly 20kg and a bunch of hair, neuropathy is another side effect that overcomes me. For a musician like me, it is like a sentence. This nasty issue prevents me from doing what I love the most - making MUSIC. Overcoming pain in my hands and fingers will not allow me to return to teaching and to be a musician - the one crucial thing I have left in my life. I am ready for any challenges this route can bring!

I am raising these funds to fund my lengthy physiotherapy and several supporting pain clinic treatments to return to what I love doing the most - making MUSIC. My target is to raise €15000-€16,250. The amount would cover most of the physiotherapy cost and help me rebuild my confidence and self-esteem after this dreadful illness that kills many - breast cancer!

On Sunday, 11-December-2022, in Sarsfield GAA in Lucan, Co. Dublin, Fermata School of Music will organise a Christmas Concert, which many talents will present along with the cake sales and hopefully some other attractions. Proceeding with that concert will also support my goal of raising the necessary funds for recovery. Recital tickets can be found on Eventbrite.

If you wish to support me in returning to everyday life, you can donate through GoFundMe or join the Fermata School of Music and #FermataTeam at the next Christmas Concert and Fundraiser. Remember, every, even the most minor donation, brings me closer to my target and recovery! I ask for your support here, and I firmly trust the power is in numbers!

Thank you for your time in reading my story and all the support I received from all the family members, friends and lovely people.

I want to send a special THANK YOU message to the fantastic medical team at St. Vincent's University hospital!

Patrycja
