Hello, my name is Nana. I’m a disabled trans man and ex-Muslim from Indonesia. I’ve spent 25 years trapped in an abusive household, and I’ve never been safe anywhere in this country as a trans and disabled person. I’ve been trying to escape Indonesia since I was 15, and now, at 25, I finally have a real chance to get out.
After years of asking for help and contacting more than 200 organizations, an international rescue group that helps trans people fleeing dangerous situations has confirmed they can help me relocate to a safer country. But for the relocation to begin sooner, I must raise the required travel and settlement costs myself.
For privacy and safety, I’m not naming the organization publicly, but I can verify this privately with donors if needed.
The organization agreed to help because my situation is dangerous.
Here is what I’m living through:
At home, I face daily physical, emotional, and religious abuse. I am also subjected to medical neglect and periods of forced starvation. I live with chronic illnesses (SLE, anemia, and arthritis), which make it impossible for me to work or escape on my own.
Because my family sees me as a “woman,” I am forced to follow strict Islamic gender rules. I have to wear a hijab, serve the entire household, and stay completely obedient and submissive. I’m expected to be the “good, self-sacrificing Muslim woman” who takes care of everyone, puts myself last, never speaks my mind, and always gives in to my male family members.
This includes being required to fast every day for a month during Ramadhan despite my chronic illnesses, which has severely damaged my health.
Since I am trans and disabled, there is no safe housing, protection, or accessible medical care for me anywhere in Indonesia. I have no way to survive here. Remaining in this country puts my life in danger every single day. Relocation is the only way I can stay alive.
This fundraiser was originally meant only for survival while waiting for my relocation. But now that I finally have a real escape pathway, I need to raise the full amount required for relocation and the first few months in a new country.
The total amount I need is 12,400 USD.
Estimated Costs:
1. Immediate survival before escape – 2,000 USD
• living costs during the 4-month preparation period
• documents, transportation, luggage, and essential items
2. Relocation & travel – 4,000 USD
• international flight
• travel documents and visa
• transportation
• emergency costs
3. First few months in a new country – 6,000 USD
• temporary housing
• food and basic needs
• transportation
• SIM card and internet
• initial medical care
• emergency costs
4. Platform & transfer fees – 400 USD
GoFundMe is not available in Indonesia, so a trusted person is hosting the fundraiser for me. I will keep updating throughout the process.
This fundraiser is my only path to safety after nearly three decades of family violence, religious abuse, and medical neglect. Every donation and every share brings me one step closer to freedom.
Thank you so much for reading and supporting my escape.
