Help Michael Walk Again

Hi, friends, family, and kindhearted people reading my campaign! :)

I had a life changing swimming accident, 2 weeks after my 16th birthday, on 6/14/98. I was completely paralyzed from the neck down, but after years of treatment and lots of determination, I was able to regain a little mobility.  Now, I'm an incomplete quadriplegic. I'm partially paralyzed from the neck down: The left side of my body is completely paralyzed, and my right side has very limited function. I'm confined to a wheelchair but blessed to be able to stand for very short periods of time with help.

I have never given up or lost hope in God's healing power, and the advancements possible with medical research.  Through faith, new treatments, and sheer grit, I have always believed: I WILL WALK AGAIN!

I'm thrilled, because on 1/8/19, I was selected for the groundbreaking, Miami Project to Cure Paralysis!! I'm scheduled to arrive on 2/5/19 to receive 3 months of cutting-edge treatment. The clinical team is very excited, because they have never treated someone with my current level of mobility. They believe I may be their first patient to WALK out their doors after completing the experimental treatment. Furthermore, the data from my case study may end up helping others walk in the future!

My treatment costs are covered through the clinical trial. However, I'm responsible for: Round-trip airfare, ground transportation, lodging, and meals, for 3 months in Miami. In addition, I must maintain rent, utilities, and other bills, for my apartment in Winchester. I will not be able to work during the trial, which leaves me with only my disability income of $1000 per month.

I sincerely appreciate any amount you're willing to contribute!!!

As a child, I aspired to follow in the footsteps of my family and serve our nation by joining the military. My goal was to become a Navy Seal.  After my injury, I had to adjust my goals. Now, I want to serve and help others who suffer from paralysis.  My goals are too: become a physical therapy assistant, work with local paralysis charities, and speak with groups to share my story.

If I'm able to walk after experimental treatment from the Miami Project, I'm going to purse all my goals with the same tenacity I've pursed walking again.  But first, I'm going to walk a small portion of the Appalachian Trail to raise money for the Miami Project, so they can carry on their mission!

With much love and gratitude,
Michael White
