But I need your help…..
Tuition is only one cost associated with the program. I am responsible for my housing, travel and course material expenses. YIVO has reserved double rooms for students at the 92nd Street YMCA, however the housing cost for the six-weeks is $2,400 and must be received IN FULL no later than April 12th. If payment is not received by this date, I will lose my place in the program and it will be given to someone else.
Attending YIVO's Yiddish Summer Program is one of the few opportunities available to me to study Yiddish more in-depth and increase my knowledge of this wonderful and unique language. Unfortunately, there are no organization or institutions in Miami that support Yiddish and it isn't taught at any universities either. In order to practice and improve my Yiddish, I have had to either look for opportunities elsewhere or create them for myself.
For the past two years I have attended Yugntruf's Yidish Vokh and last year I attended their Yidish Lerer Seminar (Yiddish Teachers Seminar), in order to work on my Yiddish teaching skills. I am also very proud to say that I now teach Yiddish at two local synagogues - Temple Menorah and Beth Torah.
Here's a picture of me and my students at Temple Menorah's Yiddish Vinkl:
It's important to me to attend YIVO's Summer Program and continue my study of Yiddish, because I believe in its immeasurable worth and importance - not just for Jews but for mankind. YIVO will offer me the opportunity to learn with the world's best Yiddish teachers and I will use the knowledge I gain there, to pass it on and teach it to others. Attending YIVO's Yiddish Summer Program will help me to ensure that this language, which I hold so dear to my heart, flourishes and has a bright and promising future.
If you could support my GoFundMe, Help Mario Study Yiddish in NYC, by making a donation then sharing it with your network of friends, I would greatly appreciate it! I know that money can be tight, so please know that even $5 helps me get to my goal! As the Yiddish saying goes: A bisl un a bisl makht a fule shisl! (A tittle [little] and a jot makes a full pot!)
