Mallory’s Recovery

Donation protected
Monday, Sept 25th, Mallory’s life along with others involved, drastically changed. That morning Mallory was awoken suddenly by commotion among the housedogs. She saw a situation that startled her and she jumped in to prevent two dogs from potentially getting into a fight, which have fought previously. In her attempts to assess the situation, she, unfortunately, ended up with the dogs attacking her legs and arm that resulted in multiple muscle and tendon tears, and extremely deep lacerations. We are not sure of the full scope of events, but she awakened in the ER waiting on a consult from the on call trauma doctor and plastic surgeon. According to the staff, her injuries were exceptionally severe and we are extremely lucky that she made it out alive through this attack. Mallory is presently unable to walk nor apply pressure to her right leg and foot.

After her emergency surgery she spent two weeks in Hilton Head Hospital until she was able to be moved to an inpatient facility to focus more on the rehabilitation of her injuries. Once transported Mallory was there for two additional weeks to get the appropriate physical and occupational therapies, and waited for the infections and swelling to go down. Once she rebuilds the effected muscles and tendons she will begin the next phase: to include outpatient therapy, skin grafting and closure surgeries on her open wounds. Mallory's road to recovery will be 12-18 months, however with her resilience and determination she will get back on her feet.

According to the Doctors she will be out of work for at least 10 to 12 months, with a full recovery time of 12 to 18 months. The Doctors along with her family and friends are hoping Mallory makes a full recovery. We are asking for everyone's support through positive vibes, thoughts, and prayers (for all that are involved) throughout this horrific journey.
