Dear Friends of friends,

Like many of you, the news of the thousands of displaced families from Afghanistan has weighed on me and I have struggled with how I could possibly help. I decided to connect with the Charlottesville International Rescue Committee (IRC) and to make a long story short…here’s how I’m helping.

 

I have gathered a few friends and formed a “Home Team,” which is a way to support one family at a time with everything from housing and housewares to tips for maneuvering day-to-day life in a new country.

 

My Home Team has just been assigned a family of seven and our work must now move very quickly!

 

We will be doing three things:

 

1) Serving as mentors for the family (how to register for school, where to shop, transportation, etc.)

 

2) Locate housing (done) and provide home furnishings. Our Amazon wish list is now live!

 

3) Raise $3000 towards six months rent subsidy.

 

Will you please contribute anything you can towards our goal of raising $3,000 to help subsidize rent for this family in need?

About the family: We are readying the house for a family of seven which includes a Mother, Father, three boys (ages 5, 7, and 11) and two girls (ages 12 and 14).
