Hi, my name is Kye White. I’m 27 years old, living in Ballarat, Victoria, and originally from a small town about four hours away.
Over two years ago, my life was turned upside down by a serious shoulder injury at work. I tore the ligament in my right shoulder while operating a heavy concrete grinder—something I was doing under direct instruction from my boss. Despite stopping when told, I re-engaged the moment he joined to help, and that’s when the injury happened. It was a split-second movement, but it’s had lasting consequences.
This injury came at an already difficult time. I had just moved away from my hometown, started a new job with lower pay, and was trying to build a new life. Instead, I found myself broken—physically, emotionally, and financially.
Trying to do the right thing, I returned to work in a reduced capacity, only to be met with bullying and verbal abuse by my boss—mocked in front of colleagues simply for being injured. The stress and humiliation left deep emotional scars. Since then, I’ve been in ongoing physical and psychological therapy, doing everything I can to heal and move forward.
Now, I’m facing another hurdle: my WorkCover payments through Allianz are about to be cut off. I have a crucial medical assessment at the end of the month to determine whether I’m eligible for government disability support/jobseeker—but there’s a 2-3 week gap where I’ll have no income at all.
During this time, I still need to support myself, my partner (who has high-functioning autism), and our 2-year-old German Shepherd, Kora. We’re doing our best to get through this, but we’ve hit a point where we need help.
If you’re in a position to contribute—whether it’s $5 or simply sharing this post—it would mean the world. Every bit of support helps us keep a roof over our heads, food on the table, and gives me the breathing room to focus on recovery. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I’m incredibly grateful for any help you can give on my journey toward healing and stability.
With love and gratitude, Kye White
