If you know Joe and Tuffy Molina, then you know they don’t know a stranger. Joe is always full of life and quick with a joke, and Tuffy is the kind of person who gives endlessly to everyone around her. During one of the hardest times of the year, their story is being shared again in hopes of easing some of the financial stress and burden brought on by ongoing and serious medical challenges.

In September of last year, Joe suffered a devastating injury, breaking both his femur and tibia. What was expected to be a long but hopeful recovery quickly turned into a nightmare when he developed a severe staph infection. Joe remained hospitalized from September through March and endured four extremely painful surgeries that caused significant damage to his tendons. During this prolonged hospital stay, his restless leg syndrome worsened, leading to painful ulcers forming on both of his heels.

Since March, Joe and Tuffy have been in and out of the hospital nonstop. Joe has undergone hyperbaric treatments four days a week, along with continuous wound care, all in hopes of healing the ulcers and preventing further complications. Despite every effort, his condition continued to decline. In November, Joe became critically ill once again and was hospitalized due to infection. Faced with an impossible decision, Joe and Tuffy made the heartbreaking choice to proceed with an amputation.

Following the amputation, Joe experienced further complications. After suffering a stroke, he began having recurring mini seizures. Doctors have indicated that this can be normal following a stroke, but it has been incredibly frightening. Joe and Tuffy are now traveling to San Antonio to meet with a neurological surgeon to determine whether anything can be done to help prevent the seizures from continuing.

Joe is currently receiving IV antibiotics three times a week and taking multiple daily antibiotics as they continue fighting for his recovery. His residual limb is healing, and they are hopeful that he will be fitted for a prosthetic within the next week or so. In early February, Joe is also scheduled to travel to Galveston for the removal of a kidney that is affecting his overall health.

FEBRUARY 05, 2026 UPDATE:

As of today, Joe has suffered another stroke and is currently on a ventilator at Doctor’s Regional. This has added an overwhelming new layer of fear and uncertainty to an already exhausting journey. Joe and Tuffy are in urgent need of prayers right now.

Throughout this long and exhausting ordeal, Tuffy has been unable to maintain consistent work due to constant medical appointments, hospital stays, and caring for Joe. She is missing approximately three days of work each week and has no paid time off, meaning she is not receiving income during this time. Medical bills continue to pile up, and daily living expenses have become increasingly difficult to manage.

Any support — whether through prayers, donations, or sharing this fundraiser — means more than words can express. Every act of kindness helps ease the burden as Joe and Tuffy continue to fight through this together.

All donations will go directly into Tuffy Molina’s name so the funds can be immediately used for medical and living expenses
