Help & Hope for Estefanía!

Dear Friends and Family,
As many you know, the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that shook Mexico last week happened exactly where most of my family and friends live. Fortunately, my loved ones are safe. However, since last Tuesday I have been wrestling with the idea of what to do, how to help, feeling helpless so far away.
My first reaction was to get on the first plane and help the community I grew up with. Then, I realized that the Mexican people are more resilient, caring and giving than I thought. Volunteers have flooded the streets of Mexico City, working tirelessly to save those still trapped under the rubble. Donations are being sent to the affected areas from every corner of Mexico and from around the world. But while the attention and help has concentrated in Mexico City and other big communities, the smaller towns, those who have the least, and have lost the most, are also the ones receiving the least aid.
Yesterday evening I got my answer on how to help those affected by the earthquake when my college-aged niece told me that her classmate had lost her house - literally, she and her family have lost everything. I asked my niece if her classmate was okay and if there was anything we could do for her. My niece told me that her friend was okay, that she was going to see her later that night while working together helping with the recovery efforts, organizing donations, caring for others.
My niece’s friend, Estefanía Magaña Dorantes, is a hard-working scholarship student at the Monterrey Institute of Technology. She and her family live in Jojutla Morelos, about one hour from my parent’s house. Jojutla is near the epicenter of the earthquake and was among the hardest-hit places in all of Mexico.
I know that our country needs a lot of help after Irma and Maria hit the US and its territories, and I am sure that many of you have donated to help those affected.
However, I am asking for your help one more time.
While a donation to an organization can make a small difference for many, I would love to give hope and make a huge difference for one family. I want to believe that while helping one person might not change the world, we can change the world for one person.
Please help me help Estefanía. Our donations small or big could help her and her family find a place to live, replace some of their basic things or even pay for part of her tuition so that she can finish college.
I am asking for your help because I know that we are truly blessed by having a place we can call home, food on our tables, safety, and a government system that is capable and willing to help us in case of a disaster. Estafanía and her family are not as fortunate.
Because Estafanía cannot be designated as the primary beneficiary (she resides outside of the USA), I (Elizabeth Antonellis) will transfer the money collected to her as soon as possible via PayPal (Xoom).
It doesn’t matter if you can donate $1,000 or $1, we have the ability to give one family hope and really make a difference.
