Help Faiz Find His Voice

Faiz is a nonverbal autistic boy — intelligent, observant, and full of potential. Though he cannot speak, he communicates in his own way: through hand signs, coded gestures he created himself, and the deliberate way he looks at people and things. He understands far more than he can express.

But because he cannot speak, the world often misunderstands him. Ordinary words like "school" or "doctor" can overwhelm him quickly, triggering intense meltdowns. He also lives with selective eating that affects his health and growth.

Please understand this: Faiz is not a "difficult child." He is a child who needs the right support.

The Problem

In Fiji, autism awareness and specialised services are extremely limited. There are very few trained professionals who truly understand nonverbal autism, sensory regulation, and feeding challenges.

Our Reality

I am a single father and full-time caregiver to Faiz. He requires constant supervision and support — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every single day. I won't pretend it's easy. Caring for a child with severe autism never is. I've been doing this for 11 years, and it has been the hardest, most relentless work of my life. Only another autism parent truly understands what that looks like.

Because Faiz needs me at all times, I often cannot follow up on work I've done or recover payments owed to me. Many people take advantage of our situation — paying late or not paying at all.

Faiz has always been my priority. His needs come before mine.

Some days are especially difficult. But Faiz and I have built our own understanding — a language of looks and gestures that no one else shares — and we keep going, one day at a time.
