Help Charon FIGHT!!!

On October 15, 2019, my daughter Charon was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease…ALS is a progressive condition that causes an individual to lose their muscle tone; taking away their ability to walk, speak and more. For some, the progression of the disease is slow, for others it's more rapid. There is no way of knowing how quickly this disease will impact an individual.

In the face of this sobering reality, my daughter has remained steadfast in her positivity, resilience and grace. Charon embodies the definition of being strong when faced with a difficult situation. While she has been a model example of perseverance, the daily challenges she faces are growing. As the situation progresses, so does the need for adequate care and comfort. These basic needs come with a great expense, as disability and state assistance do not even begin to cover the costs for her care. The policies and procedures of insurance and state assistance have many loop holes; only covering a small fraction of her total cost for care. Based off of the national average, it costs approximately $250,000 out of pocket to properly care for an individual with ALS.

Even with limited income, my daughter won't qualify for some government assistance that is available; presenting more challenges on the horizon. Every day activities that many take for granted, such as going for a walk, talking on the phone or even cleaning the house are no longer possible for her without some type of assistance at this time.
