Charlotte is a vibrant, adventurous 32-year-old woman from Sweden whose life has been stolen by severe chronic illnesses: Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, ME/CFS, POTS, and suspected mast cell activation syndrome.
Once a certified sport instructor and outdoor guide, Charlotte thrived in nature—leading others on adventures, teaching them to push their boundaries, and inspiring everyone around her with her infectious energy and passion for life. She was meant to be outdoors, moving, exploring, living.
Now, she spends most days confined to bed, her body wracked by exhaustion, pain, and unpredictable reactions to food and medication.

What Daily Life Looks Like Now:
Simple tasks like showering, cooking, or sitting upright can leave Charlotte completely exhausted for days afterward—a phenomenon called post-exertional malaise.
Because of POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), standing up causes her heart rate to spike dangerously, leaving her dizzy, nauseous, and on the verge of fainting. She has to plan every single movement carefully.
Her Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome means her joints are hypermobile and unstable—she dislocates easily and lives with constant, chronic pain throughout her body.
She reacts violently to almost everything—foods she could eat one day will cause severe stomach pain, skin rashes, or dangerous reactions the next day. Her body has become unpredictable and untrustworthy.

What She's Lost
Her career - She can't work and has lost her sense of purpose
Her home - She's lost her housing after a difficult separation
Her independence - She can't do basic tasks without consequences
Her social life - Being around people is nearly impossible when you're this ill
Her hope - Swedish doctors have told her "life is over" at age 32 and that she'll never fully live again

Why Western Medicine Has Failed Her
Charlotte has tried everything conventional medicine has to offer in Sweden and Denmark. She's seen countless specialists, tried numerous medications, and followed every recommended protocol.
But here's the reality: There is virtually NO specialist care for EDS, POTS, or ME/CFS in Sweden. Most doctors don't even understand these conditions. The medications she's been prescribed have only made her symptoms worse.
She's been dismissed, told it's "just stress," and ultimately told there's nothing more they can do for her.

Her Mental State: The Reality
The isolation and lack of options have taken a devastating toll on Charlotte's mental health. She's battling severe anxiety, depression, and active suicidal thoughts.
A few days ago, she sent me a 30-minute voice message where she finally opened up about how dark things have really become. She told me she's at the end of all roads—she feels trapped in her own body with no way forward.
Hearing her pain, her exhaustion, her fear of what comes next—it shook me to my core. I refuse to let my friend give up.

There IS Hope: Holistic Medical Treatment
After extensive research, I've found NABH-accredited holistic ayurvedic medical hospitals in India and Sri Lanka that specialize in treating complex chronic conditions like Charlotte's.
These are NOT luxury spas or "wellness retreats." These are legitimate medical hospitals with:

Experienced physicians on staff 24/7
Decades of experience treating ME/CFS, POTS, and chronic pain
A focus on treating the whole person—body, mind, and soul

The clinics I'm contacting focus on:
✅ Healing the gut (where 70% of the immune system lives)
✅ Calming the nervous system (getting her out of survival mode)
✅ Reducing inflammation throughout the body
✅ Addressing mental and emotional trauma
✅ Gentle detoxification and rejuvenation

Charlotte’s body has been in constant flight mode for years — her nervous system is stuck in survival, and until she can calm that down, even the best western medical treatments can’t take effect. This step is about stabilizing her system, rebuilding resilience, and helping her body feel safe again.

We’ve also looked into the Spero Clinic in Arkansas, USA, which offers a more medically focused approach for conditions like POTS and EDS — but the cost is far higher (tens of thousands of dollars) and the treatment is far too intense for her body right now. The goal is to help Charlotte reach a point where she can tolerate that kind of treatment in the future if needed — but first, she needs to recover enough to simply function again.

I’ve spent hours reading patient testimonials, verifying credentials, and personally reaching out to these holistic clinics with detailed questions about their experience treating Charlotte’s exact conditions.

What We Need and Why

Charlotte has already contributed everything she can — about $2,050 USD from her Swedish disability benefits. She will empty all her accounts.

Because there’s a real risk that her disability payments could be reduced or even stopped while she’s abroad, we want to make sure she has a safety net. She shouldn’t have to worry about survival while fighting to get her life back.

Update – January: revised plan, updated prices, and where we are now

We want to share a clear and honest update about where things stand right now.

The past months have been far more difficult than we expected.

Since October, we’ve been in ongoing contact with Swedish authorities (Försäkringskassan) to get approval for Charlotte to travel abroad for medical treatment.
This process has been slow, draining, and extremely stressful for her. Every delay has taken a real toll on her already fragile physical and mental health.

Because of these delays, we lost the original treatment slot we were preparing for.

At the same time, Charlotte’s condition has worsened. Right now, the priority is not perfection — it is stability, safety, and giving her body a real chance to calm down.

We have now identified a medically supervised holistic treatment center that is suitable for Charlotte’s complex condition.

After careful negotiation, the cost has been reduced from 205 USD per day to 149 USD per day.

This includes:
• Medical supervision
• Individual treatments
• All meals
• Accommodation
• Medicines during the stay

Travel is extremely demanding for Charlotte.
She needs time to rest upon arrival, time for treatment, and time to stabilize before returning.

Six weeks is the minimum meaningful duration doctors believe can help her nervous system and gut begin to settle.

If her body responds well — and if funding allows — the plan is to extend her stay beyond 6 weeks rather than stop too early.

Updated cost breakdown (transparent)

Treatment, accommodation & meals
149 USD/day ≈ 1,043 USD/week
→ 6 weeks ≈ 6,260 USD (≈ 65,000 SEK)

Additional essential costs:
• Flights (round trip): ~10,000 SEK
• Travel insurance (pre-existing conditions): ~4,000 SEK
• Basic living costs / small buffer: ~10,000 SEK

Current fundraising goal

To safely cover the first 6 weeks, travel, insurance, and basic stability, our current goal is:

≈ 90,000–100,000 SEK (≈ 8,500–9,500 USD)

Charlotte is still contributing everything she personally has. This fundraiser covers the remaining gap so she can focus on healing without constant fear of running out of money mid-treatment.

This is not a luxury retreat.
This is about stabilizing a severely dysregulated nervous system, supporting gut healing, and reducing inflammation — so Charlotte’s body can finally feel safe again.

Six weeks is the doorway, not the finish line.
Our hope is to give her more time there if her health improves and funding makes it possible.

How you can help right now
• Donate if you can – every contribution matters.
• Share this update – reaching new people is crucial.
• Leave a message – knowing she’s not alone helps Charlotte keep going.

If we raise more than the minimum, all additional funds will go toward:
• Extending her treatment
• Ensuring a safe return home
• Supporting stable housing for Charlotte and her dog after treatment

Thank you for staying with us.
Thank you for believing that Charlotte’s life is worth fighting for.

With gratitude,
Indra

To Anyone Who Feels Skeptical About Holistic Treatment
I completely understand if you're skeptical about ayurvedic or holistic treatment—I was too at first.
But here's what I've learned: If conventional medicine had answers for Charlotte, we wouldn't be here.
Western medicine excels at acute care and emergencies, but it often fails people with complex, chronic, multi-system conditions like Charlotte has. She's tried everything—and nothing has worked. The alternative to this fundraiser isn't "go back to Swedish doctors"—the alternative is that she continues suffering with no hope until she potentially takes her own life.
This isn't "alternative medicine instead of real medicine"—this is "we tried real medicine for years and it failed, so now we're trying a different medical system that has successfully treated similar conditions for thousands of years."
Charlotte deserves a chance. Even if you're skeptical about ayurveda, please consider that doing something is better than doing nothing—and right now, doing nothing means watching my friend give up on life entirely.

If she heals, Charlotte wants to:
Return to movement—to do yoga again, to hike, to feel her body as something other than a prison
Work again and have her own home
Not feel like a burden
Prove the doctors wrong and show that her story isn't over at 32

She refuses to accept that this is the end. And I refuse to let her give up.

How You Can Help
Donate if you can - Even $10 helps. Every single dollar brings Charlotte closer to healing.
Share this campaign - If you can't donate, sharing this with your network could save Charlotte's life. Post it on social media, send it to friends, talk about it.
Send encouragement - Leave a comment or message. Knowing people care gives Charlotte strength to keep fighting.

If we exceed the fundraising goal, any additional funds will go directly toward securing safe housing for Charlotte and her dog after treatment.
This money will be used responsibly and transparently — every dollar will help Charlotte rebuild stability, recover safely, and take the next steps toward living again.

Thank You
Every donation, no matter how small, gives Charlotte hope. And sometimes, hope is the most powerful medicine of all.

Thank you for believing that Charlotte's story doesn't have to end here. Thank you for giving her a chance to heal, to live, and to reclaim her life.

With gratitude and hope,
Indra
(Charlotte's friend and advocate)
