Poornachandra (Chander) Nunemanthala, father of two sons (aged 19 and 13) and a loving husband of his dear wife, Vinitha, together for 21 years, is only 51 years old and the sole bread earner in the family.
This beautiful family is going through a major health emergency. Despite his healthy lifestyle: a non-smoker and non-drinker all through his life, Chander was diagnosed with multiple blockages in May 2022. The doctors had to implant multiple stents to prevent blockages in his arteries. The recovery required him to stay away from work for nearly three months. While recovering and working to repay the medical debt, in December 2022, Chander suffered a major cardiac arrest and his heart stopped for about 14 minutes during an emergency open heart surgery. This resulted in a loss of blood supply and multiple organ failures. It has been more than two months since his surgery, and he is still under critical care in ICU. During this period, he suffered from multiple infections, severely compromised immunity, loss of kidney function and had to undergo one major surgery to remove his left eye to clear a deep fungal infection. His prognosis is extremely poor at this point.
This family has gone through more than a life’s share of pain and anxiety in such a short period of time. It is particularly heartbreaking for those of us who know them very well. We knew them as a generous family, always helping those in need. Chander’s family including children were active donors and fundraisers for People for Urban and Rural Children’s Education, a nonprofit organization helping impoverished children around the world. Furthermore, Vinitha worked day and night during the pandemic to connect friends and family of folks in the US to the right doctors and support in India.
Any monetary help that you could spare would go a long way in helping this family in their moment of crisis. Your contribution would help among other things, pay off medical debt; fund the expensive road to recovery; meet immediate family needs and keep the roof on their heads since he is not expected to return to work in the near future; and also support the kid’s education.
Please keep Chander, Vinitha and their two kids in your thoughts and prayers.
